I agree with you the Buddhist's reaction towards the destruction of their sacred statues is an example of what religion should be about and an inspiration to us all. As a Christian though, i could not convert, because i like crispy smokey bacon sandwiches too much, but have a high regard for such a peaceful reflection.

First of all being the Pope, why would he make a statement that could possibly be takin the wrong way? I mean you guys are supposed to be peace loving christians? Not to mention that it is completly untrue statement no matter who he is quoting from.

Second of all with the cartoons, i would hate to agree with the president of Iran but if they were about the holocaust the whole world would have had a problem with it.

Third, they are protesting. You don't have those where you live?

Forth, I'm living in the middle east and i haven't seen anyone protesting here, yeah even i am mad about it but if the guy is an ignorant old fool nothing i do is going to change it (of wait can i say that or might some christians be insulted).

Just because christians take their faith lightly does not mean muslim are the same way. It is their way of life.

By the way, what happened to the saying "The word is mightier than the sword"?

some of it is HYPE from th emedia, someof it is dumb dumb people who cannot speak well, thus rant about it instead, and some of it is legit becasue if you have a stron g belief you are going to have a strong reaction. Like if someone says a really obnoxious hideous thing about Buddha or Jesus and dstrys their holy objects or something abhorant like pees on a statue of it,(something like this happenned once in an "art "museum") people of that belief are gonna have a reaction for sure. But Muslims these days are supposed to be quiet, lower their heads and say "so sorry for existing sir/madam" and take insults becasue they are regarded as intrinsically inferior and undeserving of respect or rights by the western world in general. If you only know one culture and never travel or study seriously, you will really never know how people feel -you will nly understand your little world. Unfortunately, this will also make a country weak and vulnerable if they do not understand other cultures well.

Muslims are no more sensitive than any other religion. I think that some of the sects beliefs are more radical than others. Islam and Christianity are very similar religions, the problem is convincing them (both) of that. The people of the middle East have been fighting each other for one reason or another since before religion was an issue, now it is just an excuse to carry on those conflicts. They want to be angry and those cartoons gave them an excuse to be angry. The same way that christian groups are all up in arms over Madonna's crucifixion routine in her concerts, its an excuse to lash out and show off your beliefs. Pretty sad but fun to watch from the sidelines!

Hi Zody!! :o) That's a good question. And to be honest with you - I don't know why - exactly. Some have said that it's because they LOVE the Prophet Mohammad so much. But is that really an excuse?! "I HATE BECAUSE I LOVE!!" I suppose what I dislike most of all is the idea that I [someone who is not of the Islamic faith] feel as though I have no choice but to placate those who are. "Watch what you say or 'they' might KILL YOU or burn down your house, etc., OR they might rant and rave non-stop for days on end." It reminds me of how I had to respond to my alcoholic relatives when I was growing up. To me - an over-reaction to a perceived insult is not a sign of great faith - but a sign of weak faith. Take the cartoon scenario. ONE Dutch man creates what turns out be an offensive cartoon. Many of that faith literally go nuts in response. Does the Prophet Mohammad reward those who respond MOST violently to a perceived insult? Is THAT how one shows their love for the Prophet?! The difference between one who follows Christ and one who follow the Prophet Mohammad seems to be the following. Christ commands that His followers LOVE their enemies whereas the Prophet Mohammad commands that His followers KILL their enemies. If that's not true [about the Prophet Mohammad] please [someone] enlighten me. I'm running low on my ability to convince others that what we see on CNN is NOT representative of the Islamic faith. Craig!! :o)

I think it is double standard by muslims. They talk of Peace but act Aggressive. They are taught and made to believe in aggression. They are always looking for a reason to over-react.

But I would also say that followers of other religions are the same with the difference that they are less sensitive as compared to muslims.

Firstly, it's a bit upsetting to believe that people are reacting in such a way..coz the statement that Pope made has been misunderstood, one can't extract words from a speech and judge on that basis that he assused the Muslims or prophet Mohammad as being 'evil' and 'inhumane'..the entire senario is incomplete from their perspective..what he meant to state was the segragation of violence from religion and uniting as one...i agree that Buddhist people were calm towards the destrustion of the Buddha statue..and on mustn't forget, 'you show what you are by your behavior'!!

We have a reason to be upset and no, I don't think we're over-reacting or being unreasonably sensitive.

In Islam, we only prostrate to ONE being: Allah. But when pictures of the late Prophet are drawn or published, it is with much fear that Muslims will prostrate to pictures of the late Prophet instead of Allah, the rightful being worthy of being held in utmost respect.

Thus, pictures of the late Prophet is strictly a no-no. It is not just a said action but also mentioned in the Al-Qur'an.

Hope my answer helped c",)

I don't know and I have Muslim housemates and they are also sensitive like that! They will go on a 30 minute rant out of nowhere about how the American media allegedly loves to mention the religion of a terrorist ONLY IF THE PERSON IS MUSLIM. Uh...if the person is being violent in the name of Islam the fact that they are Muslim is sort of a no-brainer and will obviously be mentioned...DUH! They say that when people who happen to be of the Christian faith rob a bank or something no one mentions that the bank robber is a Christian. I'm thinking unless he's robbing banks in the name of Jesus... WHY WOULD THEY?! Also, none of my housemates that are Muslim are from the US. If Americans are so "prejudiced against Muslims" why do they come live here for like 10 years! I try really hard to be tolerant but I think that now even non-extremist Muslim people are becoming like bullies. From daring the press to print pictures of Mohammad so they could kill them to going off on people if they imply that many US terrorist are Muslim and killing in the name of Islam...their complaints/threats...are just getting old.

A good question in the field of Psychology, Sociology. But not a 'religious and spiritual question. Perhaps, the Muslims are ahead of others in the reverence and love for the sacred and the Holy ! Hence, it matters, to them, when some one is not as respectful to them as they are to the Holy Person(s) of other religions.I have yet to hear a Muslim disrespecting Jesus/ ParmAtma/ Yahweh.
