Think a little more next time. No it isn't a war on terrorist. Yes its a war on terror. Yes its a war Against terriorist. I'm sitting in Afghanistan right now and trust me it is a war. NATO soldiers are fighting with ANA and ANP (Afghan National Army and Afghan National Police) against Taliban and Al-Queda every day. That kind of makes it a war. If your still unsure stop by and I'll introduce you to both sides and you can stand in the middle and make you final decision.

Well, it is actually called the War On Terrorism, which emphasizes on terrorists and those who harbor terrorists. If waging war on a group is considered a "War," then yes. It is not what you might think of as a conventional war, but when you break it down, you can consider this a war. Think of our civil war, North vs. South, we were all "Americans," but it was still considered a war. We are not fighting this war on a certain battle ground or with conventional weapons, this war is a hunt for the enemy, an enemy who hides in mountains and desert terrain to avoid capture and will use any means necessary to kill americans. This enemy does not discriminate between americans, an american is an american and shall perish, not matter race, creed, religion, etc...they do not abide by rules of engagement or the geneva convention, law of armed conflict, etc...

Yes - and no - well sort of!
In committing the atrocity of 9/11 and committing to fighting in Iraq al Qaeda stepped over the threshold of terror into war. This was a bad mistake on their part as it gave the world something to get their heads around and fight back against.
The Popes remarks are interesting in that they stoke up the Christian/Muslim clash being fomented by Bush and Blair.
There really does seem to be a desire in the Christian establishment to force a war between the two. This would be a huge mistake.
Just like in Vietnam the forces of the west see themselves having the mightiest weapons and thinking they are invincible whilst the little brown man with a punji stick beats them hands down!!
We do not need war we need dialogue and talks on peace whilst the forces of law and order seek to track down and deal with terrorism.
Bushes attempts to subvert international law and promote torture, illegal arrest and imprisonment and refusal to conform to the Geneva Convention hardly fits with his statements that he wants states to become democratic and law abiding!!!
So perhaps the truth is that at the moment it is a phony war that Western politicians and Christian leaders are fast pushing towards a hot war!!!

The war on terror was proclaimed by George Bush. If it is a real war? Its not one state/country against another (like ww2) its more america and her alies against an unknown number of countries and groups. So its less a traditional shooting war and more a "minds war" (Bush vs Usama bin ladin usch!) where the opponents try to outfight eachother (much like a chessgame!). Its a real war reagarding the fact that a lot of people is dying all the time! Johan.

Not a war. But an excuse to reduce freedoms around the world. If people have less freedom, they are less likely to cause trouble and disrupt the provate agendas of the people who run the governments for their own private gain

Not in the traditional sense of war. There is no country we are facing to fight. We are fighting a belief that wants to kill us all if we do not believe the way they do. If a group attacks a country and kills 3000 people the act is a act of war. 9/11/01
