how come muslims r allowed up2 four wives , is'nt that somethnig like polygamy(multiple partners)?? and do u think its fair for women in islam??

Muslims can have Four wives at a time. Their Prophet did it and preached them this and they are following it faithfully !!

The fun is, they will marry the fifth one and disown one from the eisting wives due to some filthy reasons. They will marry one more and discard one....All the time in their harem they will have four!!! Some one named this as "Licenced broathal in side the home with religious permission!!!"

if the muslim man would take advantage of that allowance, he will be so sorry as he has to support all of themequally,treat them equally as well including kids and put up with all their arguing and demands. If he cannot do that he is supposed to have just one as the Qu'ran says. Very few men could pass that test. On the other hand, a few women are very independant psychologically, perhaps have been married and need companionship but not totally needy-and would prefer a marriage relationship that isn't too demanding......Only the western system of having secret affairs gives them the option of feeling fear of discovery excitement and having the sinful fun w/o the obligations. So those interested in obligation free womanizing shouldn't adopt Islamic faith it is way too family oriented for their fun lifesyle.
Funny how people interested in other religions only as it pertainsto s-e-x.
Less often does anyone ask how they pray or worship GOD.

As a Muslim Female theologian, she has 'proved' that there is no commandment in the Holy Qur'an to marry more than one. The culture of Arabs, 1427 years ago was polygamous like similar cultures described in Bible. It had to be discouraged gradually. Islam did that. I repeat,: There is NO commandment in the Holy Book to marry more than one. There is the 'permission' in exception... When, such as after a War, there are far more orphan girls than the men to marry, then, such orphans may be taken as the second, third or fourth wife.. It is written so very explicitly. But, the continuing cultures are being mixed up with the so called religious edicts. The Statistics on India show that the Hindu is more polygamous than the Indian Muslim. In Nepal, one woman takes several husbands, simultaneously. It is culture, not Religion.

Several religions allow it. Christianity is rather unclear about it (as most prophets had several wives).

Whether or not it's unfair for women - well, you'd have to ask them, wouldn't you? If they're happy with the living arrangements, who are we to say anything?

If I remember correctly, the Qur'an sets a maximum limit of four and requires that the man have the financial ability to 'look after' more than one (else it's a sin).

Might seem kind of backwards today but at the time it was a revolutionary step forward in women's rights.

What is wronge in this. If the ratio of female is more than the males where this increase will go, to the brothel or like to be a public property.

a muslim who can support 4 females can marry them. There are other provisions too to marry. Is it fair that a girl of 12 is having sex and that too without marrige in the western society..or a woman sleeping with many boyfriends and that also without marrige.
If the whole world make strickt laws to stop the killing of the female infents than only you can have a real fact of the female population of the world.

Polygamy is only outlawed by government. The region where you are referencing, however, allows it. And nothing is fair for women in the region you are talking about. And the people you're referencing, it isn't fair to the women, but they rarely treat them right. But please remember, it's not ALL like that.

in Islam a man cannot marry just for fun. there is a procedure and one should have valid reasons. the first most important point is -- a man in Islam cannot remarry WITHOUT THE PERMISSION OF HIS 1ST WIFE. only if the 1st wife permits , should that man marry or else the marraige is null and void.

the reasons for men to reamarry are:
1. in case where the 1st wife cannot have a child, in those days there was no IVF or Artificial Insemination. so instead of having a temporary marraige or Muta, the verse was revealed that said that a man can remarry. and in this case, only if the wife disagrees to have an adoption.

2. in case of wars, where a lot of men die and there are many women who are left behind. so instead of such widows who have to live their life alone, the prophet and Holy Quran agreed for the man to remarry. NOTE: in christianity the women were shaved bald so that they would not remarry. in Hinduism, they practised a religious Ritual of Sati, where the widow was burned alive with the dead husband. but it was Islam that said that widows should have equal rights to widowers.

3. during epidemics, where in cae if men die and there are a lot of women left back as widows.

4. when there is poor and orphan girl with no one to take care of, and when no man agrees to marry her -- then with the permission of his first wife the man can accept the poor woman.

5. in ISLAM on the day of marraige, the preist solemnizing the wedding will ask both the bride and groom (bride first then groom) THRICE and only if the bride accepts, the marraige is VALID.

6. MUSLIM MEN CANNOT REMARRY IF THEY CANT SUPPORT THE WIVES AND THEIR CHILDREN FINANCIALLY AND DEAL WITH ALL OF THEM JUSTLY.

marrying a woman with due respect is always better than taking a new woman every night at the pubs fully drunk and puking and raping her at ur apartments or ur back seats of the cars. also it is much better than having the wive's best frend as a mistress. it is also better than using a woman and leave her crying on the bed by giving her AIDS, STDs, VDs, and unwanted preganancies.

to SHESHADRI -- in Islam a man and woman just cannot marry and just cant have a divorce without a VALID REASON. and a woman can ask for a divorce if she is not happy with her husband.. its not calling out divorce and the marraige is over. both parties have a wait and then get after the given time period they confirm the divorce. if the parties come together again during this period then it is accepted. but if both parties plan to go their seperate ways then, they are let it be.

and sheshadri, i think u come from a culture where kings are famous for their concubines and harems. also even today, there are many people who perform Bride-Burning for Dowry. and they pressurise their wives, to sell their body organs inorder to pay the debt of the family. so spare me an opinion of remarraige. i know many people of ur faith, even some of my male Hindu freinds (not female -- they are very sweet)came to our country and married our native girls and then they go back to their countries to marry the girl of their choice. so they have 2 families running side by side and the girls dont get to know it until by chance or accident. u come to our countries and marry our women for A VISA AND CITIZENSHIP. so please we know and we have seen many of such stories in news. ya may be the whole world is lying and u are right.

As muslim woman cay say it is very fair.

Man can not take 2nd wife if he can not afford himself to treat them equally. Plus he has to inform and take permission of the first wife before to marry second one.
At least muslim men do not cheat their wives as they can always go by the legal way- to marry more than one..
