It's a plant that has healing and moisturizing properties. It can be used for cuts and minor burns to help them heal faster. Aloe vera gel can be used to help smooth frizzy hair too. That is unless you're allergic to it as I am...

Aloe Vera is strong succulent plant which is native to Africa, but grows almost everywhere. It has prickly grey-green leaves and spikes of orange flowers. Medicinally, the plant has many uses. It is best known for the soothing qualities of the sap which is inside the tough leaves. The cooling sap can heal wounds and reduce inflammation of the skin, hence is very good for treating mosquito bites or scalds or sunburn. It also has a long history as a beautifying skin lotion (Cleopatra was apparently quite fond of it.)
The leaves not only contain the clear sap, but also a bitter yellow juice. Don't use the juice on your skin! It is for internal use. (Tincture or plain juice).
Internally, it aids digestion, is a mild laxative and can help relieve discomfort caused by peptic ulcers and irritable bowel syndrome.
These days you can buy yoghurt and jelly and drinks which contain aloe. It has been eaten in Japan for decades as a tonic for the digestive system.
Aloe contains:
anthraquinones (aloin, aloe-emodin),
resins,
tannins,
polysaccharides,
and Aloectin B, which stimulates the immune system.
If you grow some in a pot, you can break off a leaf whenever you need to and use the gel on bites, grazes, eczema etc.
Essential to everybody's home first-aid kit.

Aloe Vera is lily plant with succulent leaves with medicinal properties. It was first used in ancient Egypt .
It is useful in skin conditions such as psoriasis, shingles, itching conditions ,cuts and abrasions. It is also used for inflammatory conditions of skin and as an immune enhancer. Care should be taken however, in using the plant as an anti cancer agent since such action of the plant remains inconclusive. Also traditional practitioners have not been able to come up with standard doses of the essential portion of the plant.
Some people these days use it as part of their horticultural gardens.
