That is an age old question. I think that religion is used for an excuse for politics. The U.S. is not at war with the Islamic nations because of their beliefs, Bush is there for oil, however, the Islamic nations believe that we are at war because of our religious differences. My self, I believe that there is one God and that EVERY religion worships that one God in their own way. Yes, more wars have been fought over religion than anything else. The irony of that is that most of those religions are very similar to the other in their basic beliefs. So SO sad!

I myself am a Christian, I do not regard myself as religious, religion can be extremely harmful, it can engender extreme intolerance to other religions and thus to believers from other faiths. Don't get me wrong, some religions advocate care and compassion for your fellow man, but most religions, including so-called 'Christianity' have been the cause of much suffering in the world. True Christianity is not a matter of which 'Church' you belong to, what 'Doctrines' you follow but an attitude of the heart. True Christianity is a belief in the authority and Divinity of Jesus Christ. It is a lifestyle not a doctrine, it is the embodiment of Love and 'Right'. I do not believe in forcing my beliefs on others but I feel I would be doing YOU an injustice in not telling you about Christ, as I believe that He is the only way to ultimate salvation.
Religion we can do without, Christ we cannot.
Final note: the origin of the word religion is religio, which means 'Bound by'
Christ is the embodiment of truth.
Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. John 14:6
New Living Translation
And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:32
New Living Translation

of course religion is politics
take the christian bible it was writen by constantine a roman empereur more than 200 years after jesus death and only because there were more and more christian and it allowed him to have power over them (he became the pope, created the job actually)
religion as always been highly political and for the head of them a game to gain more power out of the masses
their must be a few religion for which it is not the case but i can't remember any at the moment

non secular faith is something that brings human beings peace and is spiritually relaxing. It supplies human beings a community, and there is help and encouragement interior that community as well as charity for others. The non secular practices of human beings are part of the life-style of human beings international huge. to assert that it really is one of those politics is to bypass over the spirituality it fairly is so major to human beings. human beings out of religion and hearts of charity might want to be moved and influenced to do selfless works for the behalf of others with not something in go back than perhaps the delight of having the flexibility to assist others in favor. even as many faiths in the course of the international do have ethics and morals, those are frequently the exterior teachings and fall short of the underlying spirituality and theology of the religion it really is deeply personal and intending to its adherents. Atheist regimes traditionally have shown to be no better at bringing about peace and unity than the different type of prepared authorities be it a theocracy, democracy, or otherwise (e.g., evaluate the genocide by employing the palms of the atheist Soviet regime). those searching for the shortcomings of religion will actually discover it, and there's no doubt that faith has been abused for the era of history for one of those causes by employing one of those human beings (e.g., politicians, scams, etc). those searching with open minds and open hearts for the warmheartedness, generosity, and desire in faith will be pleasantly taken aback. faith received't be really the monster when we see it as part of the humanity of human beings everywhere you bypass. i desire this facilitates. Peace be with you.
