u said it pancho... mercer - morrisson. looked like the ref stepped in like 6-8 punches too late. and it was wicked left/right combos that jerked his head back and forth in ways we're certainly not designed for. i remember how relieved i was to see him get up later, i thought for certain he had been seriously injured. i'd also like to mention the 1st rahman/maskaev fight. although the damage done by maskaev wasn't what we would call "devastating", the results, rahman hitting his head on the table and then hitting the floor, you had to wonder for a minute exactly how bad he had been hurt. as limp and out of control as rahman was in the fall, it could've been tragic. i haven't noticed since, but i hope they have some kind of mat covering the floor "just in case" for when it happens again.

How about Wilfred Benitez knocking Maurice Hope out cold with a counter right hand that was straight down the pipe. Took Hope's Jr. Middleweight title. All those mentioned above were brutal the Benitez knockout happened to pop into my head when I read the question. For some reason that knockout to me stands out. I can remember Benitez just standing there with a smile on his face right after he connected. He knew Hope was done.

One punch KO? - Hearns' devastating second round annhilation of Roberto Duran. When the punch landed, I thought Duran's neck had broken.
Brutal beat down? - Nigel Benn's systematic dismantling of Gerald McClellan. Knocked him out of life as we know it. A boxing tragedy.
