Not only is it expensive and addictive...
If you take more than a standard drink an hour, you will not feel normal.
Short term effects (low dose) relaxation, loss of inhibitions, increased confidence, red cheeks, reduced co-ordination. Fizzy alcoholic drinks cause the alcohol to be absorbed more quickly.
Short term effects (high dose) Nausea, vomiting, slurred speech, poor co-ordination and judgement, tiredness, depression,, aggression. A hangover usually follows and is characterised by a dry mouth, headache and nausea. Very high doses can cause coma and death.
Effects of long-term regular use: damage to the nervous system including the brain, liver, kidney and pancreas damage. Heart disease.

Whenever a 'blackout' is caused by drinking too much alcohol, the blackout causes braincells to die. The first of these to go are the cells that affect Judgment! Imagine losing your judgment! just losing braincells is enough to keep me away from old John Barleycorn.
Besides, blackouts mean you lose some of your memory (of what you did/said/where you went. uhhhhhh no thanks!
