i am 27yrs old and am considering squint surgery however i have been reading that some people who have squints suffer with double vision, a simpyon which i don't have as the vision in my squinting eye is not great and therefore i was wondering that if i had my squint corrected would it cause me to then have double vision as the sight quality in each eye is different?? what i'm trying to say is that i've mainly used my good eye for sight and if i get my bad eye fixed would i then be seeing out of each one inependantly because i think that would be a bit freaky!!!! the sight in my good eye is fine i only want to do it for cosmetic reasons really...hope someone understands this question!!!

Because you've suffered with a squint for quite a while the sight in your squinting eye will have been ignored by your brain and focused on your good eye. This is why double vision occurs because the sight in your bad eye never disappears completely and may cross over.

It's not 'double' vision entirely, you'll see a faint double- reference of certain object. Usually an object that has bright colours, ie. A Tv. You'll see a 'shadow' of it although it becomes easily ignorable.

If you did start off seeing double after having it corrected one of two things would happen - either your brain would adapt by merging the two images -as it did when you first opened your eyes as a baby, or (horror of horrors) it would adjust the muscles so the images were back to what it expected. Ask your optician about this and think carefully. Other people may not be as affected by it as you think, and if your eyes work fine always best to leave them alone.
Surgery is not the easy choice it used to be, I turned down minor surgery because of the ever present risk of MRSA.
