I grew up protestant. They openly promoted the reading of the bible every year cover to cover. The more I read the more I understood what life was like thousands of years ago. People today attribute comets to be divine interdiction's. Those people do not realize that those icy bodies were just in the path of the Earth. Those that do no know attribute such acts to a divine power. Put yourself back when the bible was written... it is a bunch of fiction to appease the masses. hence the word mass.

I would say no.

However, I would say the average atheist here knows more than the average Christian here. I would not call most of the atheists here typical, however. The typical atheist doesn't even care to debate. I would call many of the atheists on this sight some of the more intelligent and knowledgable atheists. I think the opposite might be true of the Christians. There are a lot of young kids on here, that stumble into religion section, that have never really studied out their faith. I don't think that is the typical Christian, either. I think the typical Christian looks at such sights as this as a waste of time. But, that is just my opinion.

I know most atheists I have met don't know more Bible than most Christians I know.

Tends to be so, though I can't give a real reason WHY they do. I would assume it's because they have to defend their ideas so often that they learn the arguments used, and since they tend to have a more logical thought process, they can easily connect the missing pieces and B.S. their way through the details, thus appearing that they know more. At least that's how I got to know as much as I do about the bible.

Yes, but their knowledge extends far beyond the ability to recite rote memorized scripture. It often extends to the history and anthropology of the Bible and extends to knowledge of other primitive religions and the similarities between religions before the rise of Christianity and the gospels written at the time.
It's a different kind of knowledge, one that supports atheism.

Depends on your Atheist. Some just don't concern themselves with learning, or just learn enough to shut down any of your arguements. Some people don't need religion to make them act right or feel better. I'm willing to bet that the first thought that pops into over half of their heads when they're about to hydroplane into a solid brick building at about 60 mph is, "Oh God" and if there's even a second to think, "Oh God, please save my @ss!"
