The pope is the head of the Church. The word pope comes from the latin word for father. He is chosen from the cardinals by a uninimous vote to lead the church. In theory there is an unbroken chain of popes starting with the Apostle Peter. Peter's original name was Simon but was changed to Peter when Jesus chose him the lead the church after Jesus' death. Peter comes from the word for stone and Peter was "the rock" on which the church was built. That is also why we have a pope today. Jesus selected a FALLIBLE, mortal but devout man to help lead his other followers and this is continued today. The pope is simply a man who has very good people skills. He is chosen by his collegues as the best for the job from among them. He is the bishop of rome and has many other jobs besides. His most public are the spokesman of the Church and when new issues arise he is called on to help decide what position the Church will take. Catholics do not worship him or think he is perfect or infallible, they do respect him and trust him. I'm sure that some, if not all of that information is taken out of context. And everyone makes mistakes, find out what he did to correct the ones he made.

i am not a christian but anyone who has read history or has the slightest inclining of it knows the way islam was spread , no religion in this world except buddhism and hinduism has been spread through peace. both religions who have been spread through have there for a much longer time than islam and of course has a very geo centric distribution , so I can challenge any idiot who calls islam is peacefull to a debate, I can only ask them to read the history about what the persian and byzantine invaders did for islam to call it a religion of peace , most crazy muslims just are not open to criticism.thats why even though the pope qouted a factual converstaion between a king and islamic scholars these people dont want to use their brains. just like fasicsm once the islam would face an embarrasement woudl they realise how wrong thier ' peacefull reliogion' is

I don't, in fact I seriously doubt that Catholicism is compatible with Christianity but nothing in the Pope's speech is offensive to Islam except to those who lack the intelligence to understand it.

Because he tells me all the things I want to hear.
Like for instance, he says to me, yes my son, I will suck your penis.
THat is just the way those Catholic clerics role.
They are always on the lookout for the penis of a young man that needs sucking or touching.
It is for this reason, this great display of concern for my needs that I believe his every word.
