I'm forced by circumstances to eat in a mess that carries on the Lucretia Borgia tradition. The food they make is Highly Suspicious, not to say, utterly tasteless. I could use stronger language here, to tell the truth. Does anybody know a quick way to make it edible? Some garnish or something fo the kind to get the nasty taste out of the mouth?

Yes
Squeeze fresh lemon or lime on your food will give it a bit more tang.
As will adding fresh coriander, mint or basil. You can freeze fresh leaves as they are and then take a bit out of the freezer and put straight on your food. This way it is cost effective and they last a long time. They taste much more flavoursome than dried herbs and are only a little bit less tasty than completely fresh herbs.

Herbs, spices, salt, pepper of all kinds, onion powder, garlic, lemon juice, Worcheshire sauce, horseradish sauce, marinades, Italian seasonings, Spanish seasonings, etc.

It depends what you need to improve. Certain herbs, spices, sauces are meant to go with certain meats, poultry, and fish. You can find what goes with what in a cookbook or from a book in the library.

Potatoes, pasta, and rice can be fixed up in various ways with cheeses or sauces, and pasta and rice also taste good with a little virgin olive oil, lemon juice, grated cheeses, and/or herbs/spices.

Vegetables and salads can be fixed up in scores of ways.

All the best and I hope you can improve your cuisine to your liking.

Oh dear, I used to be in the forces and some of the food in our mess halls was also dogy. It all depends on whether you like spicey food - but a bottle of tabasco sauce may help - or Worcestershire Sauce. Also you can get dried chillis (like what is on the table in pizza hut)

Good luck - maybe you should all get together and complain so they may change their menu!

It's always more difficult to add taste to food AFTER it's been cooked I think. But as many others have said, try ketchup or other sauces or squeeze lemon juice etc, especially for fish. If you like spicy, the definitely Tabasco sauce.

Roasted, powdered spices blended in right proportion, sprinkled over the tasteless food could help !

get yourself a really good range of herbs & spices and start experimenting - you might not be able to change the texture, but you will the taste.
If all else fails, drink a lot of alcohol....

When I was a kid my mother used to force my sister and myself to eat brussel sprouts, the worst vegetable in the entire world so to make these things much much much more palatable we would smother them in tomato sauce. To get the taste out of your mouth, brush your teeth.
