my question has 3 parts: 1. should a man of the pontiff's stature pass such comments against another prophet and religion specially in times when world peace and tolerance is already fragile???? 2. was his comments truly communicated by the press????? 3. what are the causes and effects of such inappropriate comments?????

you should never criticize others' religions no matter who you are. no matter they follow the right or wrong way. you could only advise them. what ever he says or press made up. ignore those comments thats it.

i think he is right.. and somone has to take a stand and tell the truth.. their way is the way of the sword and the sooner we relize that the safer we will all be.. 2. never trust the press..3. it might cause war.. or it might get them to change.. nah.. it needs to hurry up the war.. that is the only way for them.. they think everyone who is not musslim or islamic should perish... convert or die.. look at the way they even brutally kill their own.. because they follow different teachings of the koran.. ie.. the different sects in Iraq..even our "good friends" the saudis say peace and peace.. but fund the terroists.. funded 911!!! fund the plo fued.. fund the clerics and musslim teachers who promote the hate.. but they are our friends..? they are not our friends..!!! they are dangerous.. they teach hate in their schools... they teach it from their pulpits.. they teach to defeat by deception and this is the way of the Koran..
and lastly.. i am baptist and i don't think very highly of the Catholic Church.. but i loved John Paul ll or whatever.. he was a good and Godly man... he loved the world.. i have been uncomfortable about the new pope.. but his comments have turned my ear to his liking..
the bottom line is all the world leaders know this stuff is true.. and religious leaders alike.. why should not every citizen of the world know its truth? so what is so wrong with stateing the truth..? should we deny the truth because someone doesn't want to accept the truth? it is time we all face reality.. very few religions teach love your enemy the way Christianity does.. but just because you love him.. doesn't mean you should be dumb to him and let him massacare you and your family... and what religion is so good that it would cause you to hate your neighbor or kill him and his house.. or even an animal..? what religion is worth that? i believe in protecting ones self.. his family or his country.. his neighbors.. his community.. and killing to do so to protect innocent lives of others.. but only in self deffense... never because of religious beleifs or political.. and who can distiguish between politics and religion these days...?

he's honestly ultimate. i'm not asserting that one and all Muslims right this moment are radicals or maybe pick to take over the international--yet, the Pope is right. The roots of Islam are violent. It became unfold by ability of the sword from its very inception and remains being unfold by ability of the sword. Muslims who pick to be indignant ought to admit the reality, merely as Christians have long considering that amitted that the Crusades DID ensue. human beings ought to admit the reality, even no rely if that's grotesque--and in actual actuality that Islam is the only faith in cutting-edge historical past that keeps to be being unfold by way of violence.

It is the Pope's job to make comments of that sort.

I think the press was fairly accurate.

The cause of his comment is the current global climate, the effect will be a lot of discussion and possible violent reprisals.

I don't like the Pope but Islam has pretty much declared war on all non-Islamics. Besides why show they get a pass when every religion gets ridiculed at one time or another. I say when they apologize for and show their against terrorism the we can be more considerate.

He began a one-way war by calling gays evil and intrinsically disordered now it's Muslims (they are likely to return the disfavour)...but who's the Pope coming for next?
Clearly the man has delusions of power ...I think this Pope is evil and should be renamed Pope Maledict it suits him better than the name Ratzinger has chosen for himself Pope Benedict... it's just not believable.
The Muslims are no better toward gays..I think this shows up religion for what it is... divisive, hateful and a danger to all of us.

I'm not sure he should have said what he did, but the Muslim world is quick to take offense and even invent non existent slights to the honor of Islam. They are always angry about something and the world trembles when Muslims are angry, because they have explosive manners (and explosive belts)

Here is a link to the English translation of the Pope's controversial speech: http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/benedict_xvi/speeches/2006/september/documents/hf_ben-xvi_spe_20060912_university-regensburg_en.html

I think it was awful. A man in his position, who has so much power to influence millions should never be so irresponsible. He talked about Islam using force to gain followers but what about the Catholics during the Spanish inquisition and stuff? Catholics persecuted many many people... including Pagans, Jews, etc. he should just NOT be pointing fingers right now... he was a freakin' Nazi for god's sake!

Fu ck the pope.
