Driving is out of question as it is the left hand drive in the US. Taxis/ limous will be expensive, are there other more reasonable options avail for commuting to Hyde Park? I am trying to reach the Culinary Institute of America (CIA)

You will need to take public transportation to Newark Penn Station. From there, check if you can take a direct train or if you will need to take the PATH train to Penn Station in Manhattan. Either Amtrak or commuter rail will travel to Poughkeepsie, and on to Albany, you may have to take a taxi to travel from the rail station to the CIA Campus..... I know the trains run almost directly below the school.

The big issue is how much luggage will you have? Neither of the train stations, while having been greatly improved, are not good places to spend loads of time with personal effects.... if you get my drift. I agree that the car rental might not be a good idea, as the area can be HORRIBLY confusing, even if you live there like I used to. A taxi from the airport is out also, they might not even take you all the way for fear of no return fare. I hope this helps a little.

Well, you could take the AirTrain to Newark Train station, somehow get into the city, then take the train up to Poughkeepsie, then maybe get a taxi up to the CIA.
