How does that exactly make sense?

Shouldn't people go to church in smaller numbers after their God wipes out hundreds of thousands of people after a Tsunami, or when God can't get off his/her as* to save 6 coal miners who are trapped?

I, as well as many others, don't go to church period!
Bad stuff still happens....
People prayed to stop hurricane Katrian from doing any damage, that didn't work. I have prayed that Global Warming will stop, it hasn't.

what does that tell you about your god. He doesn't care apperently. When are these prayers going to be answered?

Let me answer this way, can i build a car individually? certainly yes i can, but what if i get hand of others i can make car still faster time than it consume. Now comming to your point the reason church or any a religion say mass prayer bcos there is tremendous energy formation when ever mass prayer happens so if we go in masses may be we may get some spiritual energy and this small energy can bring a lot of change in our lives.

There are even cases like mass descruction like Earth Quakes or Tsunami or others again there are certain reasons of it like say that, we all believe that soul is commanding body so when body dies soul immediately takes control over other body, now what ever sin body does like mass sin, like say that i went to church and i came out and saw an old man finding hard to stand and hes lying down and i laugh at him, its a sin not only me all who sees and laughs at him happens, this is called as mass sin thats reason people die in masses.

This is world and so bad things happen but good things do happen too as the boy was saved from a deep well, look at the brighter side of life .. God created the universe for man to enjoy and command on it but man chose distruction for himself . Man became selfish. Jesus said.. Love thy neghbour as thy self.. we are unable to,love our real parents or brothers and sisters but still live under the same roof..Why ? Just give it a thought...God loves His creation and does more good then destruction...tell me can u know that you are going to live for the next day?

Because most of people is so selfish and indifferent that they didn't react until a disaster touch them deeply, or very next to or directly.
Even they ask God, for just what they need, when they need it, but almost never pray by thanking for being here, yet.

for some reason (& we "mere mortals" cannot really comprehend it, if
the premise is we are the created & God is the Creator)...

God speaks to us in good times, normal times, bad times & in the worst of times (nothing short of all the time really)

but most people are so stiff-necked, stubborn, arrogant, proud, or for whatever reason, they only respond when it is the worst of times...

& there you go...that might be a "rational" reason, that should make sense.

Perhaps it is a subconscious "Please, God, don't pick on me next - pick on the other guy who never showed up today...."

On the other hand, if people find comfort in it, then I'm glad they have something that helps them get through crises like these.

Because, instead of blaming God for what happen, they realise His power and majesty.

So they come running to Him when they realise they are nothing more than His creation and He loves them and He can do anything, while they, are limited.

Because people realize that there is Someone greater than they are Who is in control of everything that happens and they realize that they are powerless themselves.

When things are going fine, people tend to do their own thing. But when bad things happen and we are reminded of our own mortality, people tend to go for comfort and security.
