The so called "end". can happen only 1 way, the way I see it.
Rapture is going to happen like a thief in the night. people are not going to know it was rapture. People are going to see atheists gone and what they thought were Christians still here. Satan has to disguise rapture. How?
There is only 1 way, world wide at the same time, he can do this......

I believe it is more symbolic, as in the end of an age. Much like how many view things now as "pre 9/11" and "post 9/11".
I don't think its the earth blowing up or anything like that, but a change in society on all levels, that every person on the planet would be affected - and not in a small way. To think of a situation that would change the very course of history on the planet -
What if God reveals the ultimate truth to the entire planet?
What if at the same time, God's truth is revealed to everyone at once?
I would think a lot of the bickering and fighting between religions and faiths would stop - and that alone would be the end of the world as we know it and enter into a new age of mankind.

we are here as long as the universe allows. whether it be an asteroid striking the earth, or the universe becoming a Vast Intrusive Vacuum.

eventually the sun will burn out, but before it does it will swell up and engulf the earth. i think we still have about 2 billion years left though.
