Here is an excellent illustrate site, to help with whelping and rearing..It should have all you need to know> http://www.thepetcenter.com/gen/whelping.html
You can offer your dog a favorite treat, such as chicken meat, in the morning, before you go to work..If she accepts it, and acts like she would want more, then you can know that you have at least six hours before she before she begins serious labor...However, if she refuses it..call in sick..

My dog became very clingy the day she had her pups, she got upset if I left the apt. just to check the mail (she didn't want to be left alone for a second). She was also panting more than usual. She didn't end up having her pups until 10:30 that evening.
I wouldn't leave her alone for any length of time now that she may have them anytime now. It's best to be there in case she has problems and you have to rush her to the vet.

Put a large cardboard box in an out of the way place. In it put an old blanket. Encourage her to use it and when she's ready to have her pups she will have them there. This is what I did (and was told to do) when my dog had her pups. She went right into that box and delivered 6 puppies.

you need to make sure she has a comfortable private space where she can get her food and water without much effort. make sure she knows this is her spot or she will have them somewhere else. before my pets blew sometimes they would slow down or bleed a little. one of my cats howled and howled. but another spurt amniotic fluid and blood all over my new couch right under my nose. she was quiet as a mouse. my brother directed my attention to the couch and there she was, laying next to the dog (who was VERY curious about what was going on, lol)and between the two of them was a newborn kitten.

Usually they stop eating about 24 hours before birth, she will be looking for a place to have them and just leave her be. My cat is going thru the same thing but i don't know when she'll have her kittens.
