Please interpret them sentence by sentence for me.

He had,of course, figured out what was going on in the background(that we couldn't or weren't meant to see or know about).
--okay...from here on it gets a little more difficult--
and if in accordance with the canon of professional conduct he publicly aligned himself with fortune and stability.---...translate as....and in the correct, professional way of doing things..he made it possible to appear in public as fortunate and stable....but in private he always was critical of how harsh and mean his clients were......
....this is not easy to help you with because I'm not sure where your problem's in the paragraph are...this is fairly sophisticated english...

The situation here is between 2 persons....
These sentences are from "one" explaining to "us" what the "other" is like...
I'll use other words to help here...
This guy though my situation was funny... He had overimagined
the reasons of what had happended privately...., and even if he was looking and acting top-notch professional as his carreer demanded of him in public, showing himself rich and stable, but while with me in private he would always criricize the coldness and the badness of his clients...
...... Sound like a lawyer, or similar....

are u reading from adventure book or detective story book? 1st sentence say the part was funny and he knows what's gonna happen in the 1st place and to do a professsional job/do something perfect and let everyone know his wealth,money and he is in stable condition and with you around he never fail to say bad things,and harsh words to hurt people.....
