Hi. I am interpreting a novel but so many barriers are blocking me not go go forward. I need your help.

-------------->

But tomorrow, when I would be forced to leave the hotel, without baggage, without my overcoat perhaps, what would ensue? I took fresh heart when I reminded myself that I had had these same thoughts at all the crucial moments of my existence. Had it not, each and every time, been restored to me - that continuity whose loss so frightened me?

All I want to know is to understand the last sentence, which is" Had it not, each and every time, been restored to me - that continuity whose loss so frightened me? "

Could you interpret it sentence by sentence for me?
I am waiting for your help.

Clearly the person is concerned about the unknown, that is to come tomorrow.
What will happen, without the comforting protection of the overcoat, and walk into the unknown.
The overcoat has provided comfort in the past.
Had it not each and every time been restored to me? is a retorical question.
( retorical questions do not expect an answer, but are usually are spoken to allow the listener to think ) Politicians often ask questions during a speech, but dont expect any in the audiance to answer.
So each and every time in the past, when the speaker took a risk into the unknown, and loss of continuity ( predictability in his/her carefully controled and safe life), turned out ok.
But the journey into the unknown was scary, frightening.

Had not the comforting continuity of his life (the loss of which so frightened him) been restored to him each and every time that he had those same, uneasy thoughts at the crucial moments of his life--those moments when his life seemed to lose its continuity? He took fresh heart at the remembrance of the knowledge that, indeed, the continuity of his life was restored.
