I'm having a debate with my girlfriend. She contends that corn syrup (glucose syrup) is bad for you (she can't explain why). I don't think it's bad for you, because our bodies break down carbohydrates into glucose anyways.

yes it is bad for you... why you ask? because corn syrup is more made up of fructose than glucose. The body can readily break down glucose, but fructose can only be broken down in the liver... in a rat study, fructose proved to be extremely harmful, and glucose was not. I suggest avoiding corn syrup.

I would tell you that it is only as bad for you as table sugar and let you decide if that is good or not-for your teeth you already know it definitely is not, but the main thing is that it is concentrated so it is worse than table sugar. By the same token, you get a high caloric intake from corn syrup, if that is what you want-go for it. I hope that helps you decide or debate or whatever. Meantime, I know, or at least I think I know that you aren't drinking that stuff right out of the bottle, so what are you doing with it?

Not much worse than other sugars - its just you can and do consume a lot of it. There are many additives in food that are much worse. Corn syrup is a poison was a big deal in the 70s and its been revived again by idiots. Want to know what's worse? - a bucket of fried chicken, the anti biotics in your shrimp or that e.coli on your lettuce.

Anything is bad for you if used in excess. Corn syrup is liquid sugar produced from cornstarch. There may be some coloring or vanilla flavoring added to it for charm... but it's about as offensive as a plain cotton t-shirt.

It's not that bad, not much worse than table sugar. It's highly refined. What is bad is partially hydrogenated vegetable oil- do not have that.

It's not going to kill you, but it's not the best thing to put into our bodies.
