Cyanide inhibits electron transport, which is another way of saying that, even though you can breath all you want, @ the molecular level, your cells behave like they are starving for oxygen.

It is very painful, with muscle cramps, fever, vomiting & then death.

To understand the chem, you will have to learn about the electron transport system.

Cyanide is highly soluble. It reacts with all cells to form thiocyanate. Metabolism of any cell stops DNA becomes bonded to cyanide killing all cells .

It interrupts the conduction at synapes of the nervous system.
