Hundreds of illegal immigrants were picked up and deported, including some from Austin.

KXAN has received dozens of phone calls of people saying they've seen immigration officials all over the city, driving white vans and looking for illegal immigrants.

KXAN NBC Austin's Jenny Hoff investigated these claims and talked to some immigrants who fear deportation.

Luis is in the United States illegally.

He has a 5-month-old daughter, a job, and he's now full of fear that any moment he could be picked up and sent back to Mexico.

"We saw a white truck with four doors that was just driving around for about 20 minutes around the job site where I was at," Luis said. "We all just started running between the trees and the woods that was close by there."

The government just implemented a string of raids this last week, arresting hundreds of illegal immigrants across the country, including the Austin area. They stopped at H-E-B Riverside, at the flea markets, and they picked up a

the wife of an illegal immigrant, said.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, the agency in charge of the raids, says the only arrests they've made near the Austin area were in Hutto at the IFCO plant, a company they say employs thousands of illegal immigrants all over the country.

A representative of ICE told us "This was the culmination of a 14-month investigation into the IFCO company. The message is crystal clear. We are going after people in the country working illegally and those hiring people illegally." When we held an immigration forum, many people told us that's exactly what the government should be doing, and they are.

In Texas, besides Austin, ICE arrested 120 people in Dallas, 70 in Houston and 27 in San Antonio. In all, they picked up more than 250 illegal immigrants in the Lone Star State, and all were working for IFCO.

Illegals are pissing everyone off. On Bill Maher tonight, the liberals were clapping at Buchanan's statements to stop illegal immigration.

Geesh again chill peoples.I live in Tx and Austin doesn't mean the whole state is pissed off.As far as picking up illegals they have been doing this for as long as I can remember. Its actually kinda funny,I remember that when I was little my parents use to turn on the radio to the latino radio stations and the djs would actually say "hey my gento don't go in this area of Dallas because la migra is picking up people.unless u have papers".So its nothing new.The only reason they do it is so that along with the rest of the country they can say "See See we are doing something about illegal immigration."Yet the only way this is going to be solved is there is a way to keep illegals out, what's the use of deporting them if they take about a week off before reentering. The whole revolving door concept hasn't worked thus far, there needs to be a beter solution.

I don't live in Texas, however I know some people that do live there. I'm glad some people are FINALLY doing something about this.

If the government stops this good kind of activity we might need to storm the District of Columbia, aka Washington D.C. I support this fully.

Person walking through room:

I saw this question as he was answering it, and would like to answer as well. I want my voice heard. I spent 11 years in high school struggling from a learning disabilty and even currption within the school system only to have recently had problems, through no fault of my own, that caused me to become homeless and not be able to finish RIGHT before I got that chance. I spent 11 years of life struggling the best I knew how even seeing somethings that have made me appear to many much older than I am.

It is VERY hard for me to get a job now and I must live with friends each day praying for a job to come along and feeling like a total **** for having to do this to friends. I don't like my postion in life right now, but I do whatever I can to get by. Why is that I must stuggle so after 11 years and near compeletion of high school when the guy who can't even work here legally or never even went a year to highschool gets a job I would do?

Everyone is like: "They do the jobs no one else will do." Not true! How would you feel to not have a home or family you can turn to? I'd take any job I could do and suceed in no matter what it is! Job no one will do!! I will do it! Or "This one is not like the other's, he speaks perfect english." Well so do I!

Why did I work for 11 years for nothing, only to see a guy who has less qualifcations get the job I need. I'm legal and have been to school. He/she is not even legal! I get that life is hard for some and you do what you can. Look where I'm at! But do you see people going easy on me? Don't get me wrong now, I love mexicans. Their culture and languge excite me and my life was even saved by a Mexican. I don't hate them one bit.

What I hate is being forced to live like this when it is many of them who refuse to follow the rules and get a better life then I get. I am American! What about me? If you're going to treat them differently then why?

I know how it feels to be on "the run" too, I am without money living out of a friend's home. What if they kick me out? I run from cops too then just to sleep at night. So all these Mexicans using that as excuse STOP! I'm not the only one, and I'm getting tired of hearing the same sob story over and over, when it does me no good.

Just please do it right or go home so you can allow people like myself a chance once more.

Personally, I don't care if the whole country of Mexico immigrates to the U.S., as long as they do it legally. You know, pay the fees, fill out the paperwork, and if they want to become a citizen they still have to take the test(s). I can't blame the workers that are here illegally; they want to make a better life for themselves and their family, and are thinking about that above the well being of the U.S.

BUT...those things said, it's a calamity Mexico can't restructure its own political and economic system to make it a viable world competitor; that's why so many illegals are coming here in droves. And if those droves aren't willing to do things the legal way, then U.S. should and must capture and deport them back to their homeland. It's great to see the INS finally stepping in and taking initiative.

I love it! Thanks for sharing the great news! I hope to hear more and more of this kind of news!

Next, I would like to hear how they are going to start nailing all of the visa overstayers, such as our dear friend "Bunt" here! Has anyone heard how they plan to go about the deportations of visa overstayers? If Bunt is an example of the pompous, entitled, American-hating attitude of most visa overstayers, I can't wait to start hearing stories about these people being deported, as well!
