I am 13 and im frm Hong Kong and i want to know why why in the world will most chinese parents force their children to study for hours or they will be beat or punished i want to know why bcos it angers me alot.

many parents want their children to study hard for the future. your parents love you. they probably feel you need more study hours. however i hope you were exaggerating about being beaten. usually privileges for computer, video games etc are withheld when poor grades show up in report cards or if homework are not done. many chinese parents know the value and power of knowledge. you can only acquire this thru studying. cheer up! don't your parents reward you for good grades too?

Being that you are from Hong Kong you are closer to this then most people on this site. Read up on some psychology and parenting books and maybe you will understand their reasoning. Personally, I think it's appaling.

I think their culture values education more than most, but I doubt they are torturing their children. With the one-child law they lavish all kinds of affection and love and treats on their kid.
They also want them to be successful - and in a country where there are millions and millions trying to make it, it takes a lot of work to compete - let alone stand out!

are your parents like that?? im also a chinese but with 8 years of studying my parents dont do that to me. may be because they want the best of you. study hard

They want to teach them the importance of hard work and success. They want their child to be successful in adulthood. It obviously works because there are a lot of successful asians.
