I'd say 6 weeks, but it depends on the century / decade.

1800's with roads?? then say 6 weeks.

what type of horse, how often are you stopping, from where in maine to where in kansas, how fast does the horse travel, how much of a load are you carrying on the covered wagon, serious answers need more info than what you gave

Hmm. You may want to research how fast a wagon moves...ask around. And then try and see where the roads were back then and map it out. In the process you may find interesting plot point to add to your story.

Hope this helps

not enough info.
1)depends on season- they can't travel at night...longer days in summer (assume 7 hrs of travel time/day for my estimation)
(also have to consider time to rest...set up camp...eat, etc.)

2)where in maine and where in kansas...what is the total distance?
(if center of maine and center of kansas...=~2,000 miles per yahoo maps, but that's nearly a straight line...assume 3,000 miles for my estimation)

3)i'm not sure how fast covered wagons can go...but i know they don't move too fast...speed-walking speed is ~4miles/hr...maybe max of 10 miles/hr? also depends on the load. (assume 5 miles/hr)

my estimation:
35 miles traveled each day.
about 86 days to travel 3,000 miles.
i would say about 3 months...4 months if stopped for longer periods or had problems.
