I don't know why it affects you in particular, but I have had the same experience. I'm drawn to the beauty and the danger of it. I love thunderstorms - the electric air, the sound of the wind and the drowning rain and the rumble of thunder that goes right through your bones. It's epic.
Perhaps, though, the sadness lies in nature itself. Strange weather brings it to my attention the most...there's a kind of deep sorrow that runs through the fabric of the world, and I'm not entirely sure what it is yet. It's like a song that makes me want to cry, or an epic story with a tragic and beautiful ending. Maybe it reminds us of something we lost that we can't remember.

No idea. Other than making some people alittle nervous- I've never heard of lightning affecting people emotionally in any way... Maybe you're just reacting to it off an experience you had when you were young- & it happend to be storming at the time... Childhood associations can last a LONG time- & come out of the oddest events...

it is quite natural. whenever thunder is approaching all nature is holding its breath. meteorologists call it low pressure or I don´t know what it is called in english. wind stops, birds and animals take shelter. last year 20 cows where killed at one time by lightening here in Denmark, because they took shelter under a tree, that was hit.
my old house had straw on the roof. so when the thunder was just above, we got up and downstairs and had thunder-coffee, ready to get out, and I had my gardenwater ready to put out a fire. but I always live near the sea, and ligthening often hit the sea, as electricity is attrackted to water. only as a child I was afraid. we believe in Thor, our old god of thunder, and he is very angry and throwing his hammer to kill bad people.

Lightening gives off a lot of nitrogen. It makes plants grow fast. I puts a lot of good ions in the air. No reason why it shouldn't affect some humans too.

That's strange and interesting. I wonder why you get sad? Hmm, it has the opposite effect on me. I get a surge of energy and sense of wonder with it.
Strange.....
