Ok, first, cometimes cats throw up, and lots of times, is cause they have a hairball. Whenever you change a pet's food, you have to do it gradually. Mix the new with the old gradually unitl its all new - changing foods suddenly is hard on their stomachs and digestive systems.

Also, if your cat is over 2 years old, back off on the canned food - this food is made with a lot of extra neutrients for kittens and young cats that older cats just don't need. Hard food helps keep their teeth clean and cats do well on just that.

Don't be fooled into thinking your cat is getting sick cause you forgot to feed him his extras.

Cats can also throw up if they ate something they shouldn't have, or if they are overly stressed. And stress may not come from an obviouse source either - he could be up in arms about a new neighbor cat or dog. Be careful about worrying over much over him, cats pick up on your emotions and sometimes they may not have anything wrong with them but will be stressed because YOU are stressed.

I would take him to the vet Only if the vomiting contiues or if he acts different than normal in other ways.

Hope I helped.

Although *occasional* vomiting is not unusual in the cat, watch him to make sure it doesn't continue. If so, get him to a vet immediately.

Other things to consider:
if he's had access to poison - to the vet immediately!
If you've changed his food and this is when it began, make sure you mix the former food w/the new food - the changeover should be gradual.
It could be bad food.
Could possibly be a hairball.
In spite of the recommendations given for feeding him grass -Don't! This often leads to vomiting.
There is a product called Benebac (beneficial bacteria) which will help his stomach calm down.

Good luck! Hope he feels better soon!

I have a cat who will vomit new food for a week after changing, it could be that. I would take away his food for 24 hours and make sure he drinks, if he's still vomiting then call the vet. After the 24 hours with no food try to give him a small amount of rice mixed with food, if that stays down then you can give him some more, then over a week add rice in smaller amounts each feeding until no rice at all. This should settle his stomach and by then he should be use to the new food.

This sounds love that's an abscess, and it has burst. Abscesses reason infections, so this may be the reason your cat is being 'lazy'. that is form of like us with a chilly or flu we don't pick to do something different than lie in mattress. while an abscess bursts lots of the pus comes out and it could look rather terrible and can bleed plenty and a cat will immediately commence cleansing the section. If it remains very purple, bleeding and that they pusing won't provide up take him to a vet asap. interior the period in-between the terrific ingredient you're able to do is bathe the section a minimum of thrice an afternoon with heat salty water making use of a cotton swab. you should to have a seem to work out if there's a distant places merchandise interior the wound because it is one in all the motives why abscesses commence. desire he would be ok. merely save bathing it.

This sounds like a poisoning episode to me. Could he possibly have gotten into something when you were out? The best thing is that he is throwing up as that can help clear his system.

My 22 yr old cat drank from a community drainage ditch that runs through my back yard. I hate it when people use pesticides and lawn fertilizers and then let it run off. The ditch is for flood prevention and goes directly into the stream at the park and then to the ocean.

She vomited and lost the use of her back legs entirely for about two hours. Of course I was beside myself and went straight to the vets. We just had to wait and she recovered completely thank heaven.

Call an emergency vet and see what they say. If you can identify a poison he might have gotten they can let you know if treatment with activated charcoal would help clear his system. The charcoal is a very effective means to absorb any remaining poison

I'm sorry to hear about your kitty. If it acts like this by mid afternoon I think it would be very wise to take him to the vet. however, this may be side effects since the kitty hasn't been receiving it's usual nutrience. My cat get's this way if I don't feed her the soft-canned food each day. She's so use to it then if she misses one she looks and acts a lil sick. And when you switched to the newer food you should have mixed it in with the old food and gradually began to have more of the newer food rather than the old food. This would have caused the kitty to get use to the newer food faster. Maybe that is what's making it sick... is by not being use to the new food... Ya know how we can get sick when we eat something foriegn and we've never had it before, Well same basic principle. I hope your kitty feels better. I really do! ;)

Kitty probably had too many changes at once...did u slowly introduce the new food or just switch? You should slowly mix their new and old food for two weeks, each day adding more new food and less old food. Lets their tummy get used to the switch. But I would at least call the vet and see what he says. Vomiting can be a sign of something serious just as easily as it can be something minor.

when you get him new food, you should still put his original food on his bowl, add a little of the new food on the first day. on the second day, add a little more. keep doing this until you cover the whole bowl. but don't put too much at once!!!!! it is not true that some cats cannot take a more expansive brand than others. it must get used to it before eting it more. look at its eyes. do you see another eyelid? if you do, bring him to the vet. it signals that he or she is sick. if it starts puking, it MAY signal that it is sick but before you spend any excesive money, check its eyelids. it may not be sick at all.

it's not too late to change back to it's original food and start changing it slowly.
