No, it's a myth. What is true that you will use more fat as a fuel since your liver doesn't have any glycogen to send to the muscles. Since the liver only has a 6-7 hour supply of glycogen. It doesn't make any difference what fuel is used. What counts is the total calories burned. Better to eat breakfast, at least some orange juice and then run or exercise, but if you lift weights you also need protein. If you eat first, you can workout harder and longer and get rid of more fat.

The exercise in the morning gets the body's metabolism going. It gets the body to start burning calories before the first meal (breakfast) is consumed. This will last throughout the day. This is why breakfast should be the most filling meal of the day.Items such as oatmeal, cereal, bananas, cottage cheese with fruit, yogurt etc.The exercise in the morning helps to digest this food.Digestion itself also burns calories.
In the Army we would definitely have exercise (PT) before breakfast.Considering the intensity of our exercise, having breakfast before PT would not be possible.Everybody would end up throwing up.And the last thing you would want to do is to have a serious workout with a full stomach.
What you can also do is after having dinner, have a nice walk for about half an hour. This also helps in digestion.

I think it all evens out in the end. Whatever makes you feel the most comfortable will probably encourage you to exercise.

I have heard that eating protein before exercising is better for the replenishment of muscle tissue, because if you don't eat protein until after your exercise, it can take time to digest, but your muscles want it right away. That COULD have something to do with it, but that means you're losing muscle-weight.

I also hear that eating carbs before exercising will give you more stamina.

Note: When you eat before, make it about a half-hour before, so your body can focus on working out, not digesting what you just ate.

It isn't that you burn more calories. The calories that you burn in the morning comes more from fat than if you exercised later in the day.

As for this, I suppose you burn more calories, since you have no food intake, so supposedly, this is probably true.

Exercising works best when you haven't eaten yet that day. However any exercise is good exercise.
