I got asked out by the new kid but he has only sat with me once and the only time we hang out is when we play basketball.

why not ask him where he wants to go?, boys want to stay in a place where they are interested to, like watching action movies, playing on-line games, and watching basketball.
a place where they will experienced challenges,....
but still he doesn't hang out with you then, don't be sentimental, enjoy yourself by watching your favorite show, go for a walk with your friend, read your favorite book, or call your friend.

You should tell him about how you feel about him not sitting with you or hanging out with you.
Relationship problems usually work out if you guys talk it over.
Just remember that communication is the key to a successful relationship.

If hes suppose to be your boyfriend and doesn't do anything with you then you need to let him go and find a guy that wants to spend time with you and do stuff. Its only going to get worse. Believe me I know my brother is doing the same thing to his girlfriend.

Get a hint and break up with him.
He wants a friend from you.. a basketball buddy. He is either to young and dont want his buddies to think hes whipped by sticking by your side.. or hes older and dont want a relationship.

maybe he is awkward and shy and will grow out of it ask him why and if it doesnt stop dont waste anymore time leave before anymore feeling grow and then you get your feelings hurt over it.
