Right now I'm trying to wind that back on myself by going to bed an hour earlier each night. It isn't easy. And the fact that this is here on the computer to turn to makes it even harder.

Force yourself to stay up and don't go to sleep at 6 or 7am. Be as physically active as you can be throughout the day so you don't fall asleep. If you don't work outside the home or go to school all day, spend the day deep cleaning everything in sight, clean out closets, do marathon laundry. The physical activity will tire you out, but try to make it to 8:00 or 9:00p. You should sleep from exhaustion and wake up at the normal time the next morning. If that doesn't work, try over the counter tablets. They will only work for two or three days in a row, but that could be enough to get you on track. If they don't work, you definitely need to see a doctor to find out what's wrong.

Buy some really bright lamps that mimick natural sunlight (Ott lamps or a flourescent lamp with a "cool" color temperture -will look blueish-, not a "warm" one -would look pinkish -) and sit under it up until your regular bed time, even if it's dark outside. Then, at bedtime, make sure all the lights are out and it's completely dark. Resist the urge to take naps on your couch or to use the bed for any purpose other than sleep, or you confuse your body. With any luck, this should reset your body's internal clock. Take melatonin or a sleep aid to begin with if it helps you fall asleep, but never stay on any of these drugs for long, or your body will become reliant on them and stop producing natural melatonin on its own, and that will make your problem worse. This method can be used to treat certain types of depression as well as strict insomnia. If you still can't get your sleep cycle under control, see your doctor.

Go to bed the same time, and get up at the same time, even on your days off. Don't watch TV or read in the bedrooom, keep it for sleeping. A small glass of warm milk or relaxing type of tea may be helpful 30-40 minutes before attempted bedtime.
Watch your coffee, ice tea, sodas with caffeine consumption;
( even chocolate) caffeine stays in your system about 8 hours after you have had some, so forego that afternoon cup of "pick me up coffee". Don't watch TV that makes you feel anxious. Don't nap at all. Get in some sort of exercise to wear off some of that energy, even if it is a walk around the block. If it interferes with your lifestlye, consult your physician for some temporary sleep aids, to get you body back on schedule.
Sweet dreams !

alright. everyone is different, but a few people are saying, "get a night job". yes, you could. my experience, i was always a night owl "still am", having the same problem you are, and i got a job offer to work 3rd shift, i figured "might as well, i'm up all night anyways", but then you get the job and it's HORRIBLE. it's impossible to sleep during the day. the noise. the light. you have no life because everything else is happening while you're asleep. i never slept, always afraid i'd miss out on something. just a thought.

Research, and find a medicine that works. Don't take naps, and try to sleep at night.
