Well this is much later, but I've had lots of experience with old cats over the years.

The kitty is SICK, and will become dehydrated quickly unless she is given lots of water & fluids. She needs to see a vet ASAP, and they're open now.

Explain to your friend that she needs to do a bit of research in the future to know where to go in an emergency. Not to make her feel guilty, but just to be better prepared. Emergencies DO happen, as we all know.

Hopefully, by now she's had her cat to the vet and is receiving treatment. Good luck to her and her kitty! And kudos to you for being such a kind and available friend.

I don't agree these are all signs of aging. I have a 14yr old cat. Yes they slow down, eat less, lose weight and fur but if its come along suddenly, not moving and throwing up I suggest a vet visit. make sure no nasty infection in the bowel. Much like food poisoning for us. Slimmy stuff arouond mouth could be sign of dehydration / lack of food. Plse take to vet. I don't thik cat is dying. Hope all is well for yr friend. Much luck to you.

I think a vet should see the cat. I have a 22 yr old cat and I get upset when people say a cat is old at 13. I also have a 13 yr old cat and a 14 yr old cat and a 12 yr old cat. They are not old and in very good health.

It sounds like this cat has a serious illness and must see a vet ASAP.

The cat could have some kind of stomach worm, if it's an outside cat they get sick more often. Older cats fur gets thinner and looks dull. They move slower and sleep even more. But no, a cat will not throw up everything if it is dying of old age. The cat is sick ,and if she can't afford to take it too the vet, she should take it to the animal shelter and they will put the poor little fella out of his misery.

I would call poison control find out what she could do to get up all the stuff.....if it has been poisoned? Anywhere from 10-15 is old age........signs weight loss but my cat ended up being diabetic (lost alota weight, drank alot, pee alot wont eat as much) if she can pick his skin on back of his neck (like mother cat would carry) and it stays up when she lets go the cat is dehydrated.....just tips from personal experience....

We got house call pet doctors here at my home area... Maybe you can call the operator & ask whether they know any nearest house call pet doctors at your area...

If there aren't any, then maybe your friend has to wait until morning until the vet clinic is open... All she can does for the time being is trying to keep her cat warm... Since the cat pukes a lot, then don't let it dehydrated... Try giving the cat something to drink... Take it to the vet as soon as it opens... ASAP!!!

I hate to say it, but it sounds like the cat is dying. usually they hide and die alone, but if its in the house, it can't.
extensive weight loss is a sign the animal is sick, throwing up is also an indicator. aside from age, I would bring the cat to an emergency vet, and get a proper diagnosis.

My gawd...call the vet...hello...doesnt take a brain surgeon to know this. Thinks its dieing of old age. Does she not know the age of the cat? Has she ever taken it to the vet? She might of gotten into poison. Why ask us on here...your wasting crucial time and alot of no good answers that you may follow. CALL THE VET

She needs to take the cat to a vet ASAP. I know that they aren't open in the evenings, but I'll bet there's an emergency number or something....

Sorry, but your friend is right on this one - your friends cat has either been poisoned or is otherwise sick, and if she wants any chance of saving it, she needs to get it to a vet NOW.
