At 18 months old he should be sleeping through the night. But there are lots of factors to consider. He is at the age to begin potty training. You should take him to the bathroom before he goes to bed. He may be using the bathroom in his diaper and that is waking him. Is the house quiet? Sometimes the slightest noise can wake a sleeping baby. Or vise versa.. if you put him to bed and it is noisy, then when the noise cuts off... he will wake up. Sometimes if babies eat or drink prior to going to bed they will wake when the food is digesting. Just put a soft toy in the crib and when he wakes up he will occupy himself and go back to sleep. Is there a light on when he goes to sleep... a night light? The lighting needs to be consistent so that when he wakes he will know he is not in a strange place. Is he going to sleep in his own bed or do you put him to sleep somewhere else and then carry him to his room? There are many factors to consider, but I'm sure you will figure something out.

Does he still take a nap during the day? If so maybe that nap is too long. Also when my son wakes up in the middle of the night. I check on him and sit in his room until he goes back to sleep, but I dont pick him up. This lets him know that I'm there but not going to hold him. It took about 1 1/2 weeks but he started feeling comfortable and didnt wake up so much. Until finally he slept through the night . Good Luck

I am a mother of 3 and found that if my children were in beds not cribs, they would sleep better. All of my children were 1 before they slept through the night all the time. Plus, I think it helps if they arent sleeping in the same room as you. They may be light sleepers and if you are rolling around making noise, they may get up too. Also, my doctor told me that kids older than around 9 months shouldnt need to get up in the night to eat, so stop giving them night time bottles. He also said that mostly the child just wants your attention, so if he does get up, just go to him and rub him and lay him back down. Then wait a few minutes and do the same if he isnt calmed down. Eventually they will go back to sleep themselves. Its hard to do sometimes, especially if its your first kid, but its the only way you will get any sleep any time soon!

What do ya"ll do when you get up? Change diaper and go back to sleep? Surely not a bottle he's 18 months old. If nothing is really wrong I would let him know you are there but leave him in bed. Let him cry back to sleep. He needs to learn to self comfort. It should take just a night or two. But stick with it. Just let him know you are there by talking and touching, not picking up.

All babies need for one a schedule. Some babies have more energy than others. So try for a couple of hours before sleeping time to walk and play with him at the mall. when you see him getting grouchy get him a good meal and feed him good. Go home wash him up and make him some nice hot milk and see than what happen. And you can come up with different ideas like that.

Sometimes kids wake up in the middle of the night for no reason. If he's not fussy, just let him stay in his crib. My daughter used to wake up and talk to herself for awhile, then she'd fall back asleep. If we went in, she'd think it was time to be up and playing. If he is fussy, I would do all the standard checks (diaper, tummy, etc) and if he's fine, I'd put him back in bed. No doubt you are burning yourself out as well because I'm sure you haven't had a full night's sleep either. Good luck!

Do you give him a bottle before bed. Perhaps he is hungry. also, there is nothing wrong with letting baby cry themselves to sleep. As long as u know they are not hungry or wet, let them cry. Eventually they fall asleep.
