Why is it so many religious people automatically assume that an Atheist has lower morals and such? According to research, Christians generally don't trust Atheists. Why is that?

Why is it bad to demand evidence to support a belief? Why is it bad to not believe in some stupid little book that's full of plotholes, contradictions, intolerance, and stories that belong in the children's section?

>Why is it so many religious people
>automatically assume that an Atheist
>has lower morals and such? According
>to research, Christians generally don't
>trust Atheists. Why is that?

Is that idea based on reputable research?

If it is so, probably because many people figure that Atheists have no ABSOLUTE standards of morality, etc.

Maybe also it is because of an Atheist's BELIEFS -- she or he BELIEVES there is no God.

>Why is it bad to demand evidence
>to support a belief?

Ever look around, at the Universe, the multitude of stars that you can see on a clear night; a beautiful sunset, etc., etc. Can you name any human that made any of those things?

>Why is it bad to not believe in some
>stupid little book that's full of plotholes,
>contradictions, intolerance, and stories
>that belong in the children's section?

It is permissible to NOT believe in some of those textbooks from your school ... especially those textbooks that present the theories of evolution as proven fact.

You have every right to believe what you wish- I do think that it is possible to believe or have lack of belief without belittling or insulting the other party- I have a huge problem with this.
As far as morality goes, my issue with not believing in God is what , then, is your foundation for oyur morality? So many atheists say there would be more peace without religion but the fact is everyone would in essence be their own God and what is moral to one atheist may not be so to another. What one thinks would not hurt others, another will disagree with. Many feel they are living in a manner that will hurt no one but they don't see and understand how it will hurt in the long run. Without God, who then is qualified to decide what is moral and what is not? There has to be an authority, there has to be a foundation for morality and there has to be qualifications for making the judgement of what is and is not moral. My belief is that God created this earth and He created me- He is the ultimate authority on the laws that make this world run the way it does (scientifically) He is the ultimate authority on what is good for me and what is not and even when I do not see and understand the consequences, I trust htat He knows and His thoughts towards me are for my good.
What I don't think, though, is that I am any better than anyone else, I do not place myself above a nonbeliever, thinking I am better, less sinful, or anything like that- I also don't believe that it is right to be insulting , belittling or nasty to an nonbeliever (something that a lot (NOT ALL) but a lot of atheists feel is okay to be towards believers) I just believe that they have not realized the foundation for morality and accepted the truth of the ultimate authority in their lives- no where that I and most believers have not been once in my life.

If you are an Atheist, there is nothing wrong with being an Atheist. If you are a Christian, being an Atheist means that you are not saved, and therefore will not get to heaven. Other than that, you are a person just like everyone else. Your morals, ethics, trustworthiness and etc.. are not necessarily any different from mine or anyone else's. Your sense of right and wrong likely falls in line with most Biblical teachings (not all), because most people would agree with the majority of the Bible's moral teachings (the Ten Commandments, for example).

In truth, it is up to God to decide if there is anything wrong with being an Atheist. And, of course, the Atheist will not worry about that.

I think that Christians are afraid of Atheists. They are taught that their way is the only way and can just barely tolerate other "official" religions. That atheists not only don't believe in their god, but no others as well, really freaks them out. They might also be worried about the possibility of Atheists being right. If Atheists were right, then it means their entire belief structure would come crashing down on them and they would end up just a part of nature's cycle. Even as an agnostic, the thought is spooky, to say the least.

I'm sure there are plenty of "good" people that are atheists. All religions look to something beyond this world. If this world is all there is, then life has little meaning.

As far as evidence, if everything were proven or laid out plainly there would be no need for faith. Faith is the foundation of religion.

Atheists have a reputation for being arrogant, which is a major turn off. You lived up to this reputation by calling the bible a "stupid little book." Not all Christians take the bible word-for-word literally, and certainly not all Christians are stupid. You know, it's possible for intelligent people to disagree about things. Show some respect and you'll receive respect.

You answered you own question. At first your question was reasonable, you want evidence, you question what we believe - then you lower yourself to call the Bible a stupid little book.

Why? I don't believe that you are stupid, or without morals just because we disagree on whether there is a God or not. So if you want answers why do you have to lower yourself to insults?

Why not simply ask, why this why that - but to resort to name calling, you sort of put yourself into tht catagory of lower morals, low empathy and you earn distrust.

RELIGION is just a lable i myself am a follower of his Word and i trust christians,Atheists, buddhist, muslims etc....
all religions are based on Faith.

So, in a sense you have faith and or trust in your judgemment that without facts something is not true but if you felt the love and great compassion and mercy of God and seeked his awesome presence then you would have more respect for his word. Thus, your view is an outside or onlooker view unless you have once been "religious"......stick wit what you trust but God will prove himself in your life someday....it might be an experience or a miracle right before your eyes........but i will not say snobbish like "i will pray for you" but then agian i am doing that right now in hopes that one day you will stand in Truth and i will see you in heaven.

Atheism is wrong because man denies his creator which is an insult to God.

Atheists do not lack the proof that God exists, its up to them to believe and walk in faith.

Seek God with all heart , He promises that you will find Him. A man once set out to prove that the Bible was wrong, but he ended up accepting Jesus as his saviour. Know why ? The word of God is powerful and active!

Hey, I'm not going to judge you in this world ... but you must think, simply think, of the remote possibility of some other superpowerful entity, that doesn't take crap from anyone, even so-called (by label only) Muslims, Christians or Jews (or any other religion) doing that after you die ... ;)

Scary isn't it? ... so, watcha gonna say at that time? Have you prepared your speech ...?
