An insurrectionist who was held in Roman prison at the same time as Jesus. He was rather well known, whether famous or infamous. He had killed during the uprisings, I'm not sure how many people or if just once. He was freed, as was the Roman custom, instead of Jesus because the Jewish leaders convinced the crowd to call for him instead of Jesus.

He was the prisoner that was released because Pilate gave the people a choice between him and Jesus. They wanted him to release Barabbas because they wanted Jesus crucified.

he was a bloody gang-star around Jerusalem.Jews chose our lord Jesus to be judge in Barabbas place he who was convicted of assault ,and mass killing, and theft, chrise took his sins with him to the Cross, and if Barabbas repented ,he would be saved ,and inherit the eternal life when Jesus comes back soon.Jesus is the king of peace, and not the peace which UN or any organize party or movement, even religious with all their competitor's.can not produce any like (the peace that Jesus gives is eternal and holly with no innocents victims ),or suicide to gain it but only by love and believe, and it shall be given but only through "Jesus Chrise" .

He was thought to have been one of the Zealots....a Jewish sect devoted to armed violent overthrow of the Romans. He was arrested and held as a murderer, but this was connected to insurrection. That was his crime when being held and released when the crowd was given the choice between releasing him or Jesus by Governor Pilate.
