Best to take it easy for awhile, sounds like you overdid it. Put an ice pack on the knee for about 15 to 20 minutes. If the pain persists, it would be best to see your doctor, you might need physical therapy.

Place an ice pack on your knee (help with any swelling & pain) Try some stretching before u go back on the tredmill. Also u may want to add an insole in your shoes to help with some of the impack and let your Dr know about this problem just incase you may have some kind of tendon tare or even cartlidge issues. You also may want to cut out a few days and take it easy. I don't know how long your on the treadmill but maybe increase your time your on it may help, I don't know what your level maybe how long your run is and also if your on an incline or not? Best though to take it easy and have your knee looked at.
Take care of your knee first and don't over do it your body is telling you something if it's in pain...Don't forget ICE pack and wouldn't hurt to take something for imformation for the swelling and some tylonal

if you are in good health otherwise try using a knee brace when using the treadmill you may have a sloppy joint giving you trouble the brace will hold it in good form. otherwise talk to your doctor about the pain make sure to start slow for a good five minutes. and always always stretch well afterwards!

Joint pain or stiffness of the joint may be caused by overexertion, injuries, arthritis, muscle pain, bursitis and other diseases. Depending on the cause of the joint pain, joints on both sides of the body and small or large joints may be affected. Some types of joint pains can be completely cured but for other types of joint pain (like pain caused by osteoarthritis), treatment will only reduce the pain. If you have even mild arthritis it can be exacerbated by high impact exercise. Try switching to a lower impact exercise such a bike riding or walking. If pain persists contact your doctor as tests may be warrented to check for tears. Also you might try an anti-imflammatory, such as, ibprofen after exercise.

I would get that in my hips from the impact. I switched to the elliptical machine and never looked back. You might try stretching a little more beforehand if its related to the tendons.
