You don't. Canadian Tire carries it's own brands whicha re nothing more than any other department store bicycle. Spend a couple hundred more and get a bike from abike store that is made better, and will last longer (thus getting you your $200 back over time)

even the best Canadian tire bike is not a really good bike, I would recommend going to a good bike shop (bikes and beyond in winnipeg) and picking up a good ride, plus with the staff of actual cyclists you'll find at a bike shop they'll be much better to answer any questions you may have, as opposed to the canadian tire staff who only know that the wheels go on the bottom.
I have nothing against Canadian Tire, its just not a good place to buy a bike.

you buy a map and ask the check out person where the nearest bike store is. canadian tire?!?!? come on!!!
