Does anyone know if there is a general life span for red wine once the bottle has been open??

I just opened a bottle of 2003 Turning Leaf Vinyards wine from Sonoma County.

No more than four days for newer wins (2003 and up) and for older wines you want to drink it within 24 to 36 hours because the wine will change flavor. BUT you can buy special corks that use a pump to take the oxygen out. Then you can cork it and finish the bottle a couple of weeks latter. But i sugest (I am in culinary school) that you finish it on the second opening becauce no matter what. Open wine will ferment and change

Older wines actually need to "open up" prior to drinking. A 1982 Chateau Mouton Rothschild for example, could be opened and even decanted 2-3 days before serving and probably taste better than it would upon first opening. It all depends on the amount of tannins in the wine, the more tannins, the more acidic and the more the wine could use oxygenation to break down the tannins. A wine like a 2003 Turning Leaf should be consumed within a few days of opening as this wine was not made for cellaring. Some wines can stay in the cellar for 50 years or more, some only a few years. Cellar temperatures should be 57 degrees and 80 % humidity, and of course store your wines on their sides to keep the cork saturated

yes when open for white really 24 hours but it should be drunk that night and red can be a few days but again wine it meant to drank the moment it takes it first breath.

when you open a bottle of RED WINE you drink it the same day the red wine change test and start to smell different
then it turn to be VINEGAR UNLESS YOU LIKE VINE GER
