No other symptoms. She is acting fine. No fever. Just vomiting every 20-30 minutes for the past 5-6 hours (sometimes as often as every 10-15 minutes). I have made sure she has drunk plenty of water to prevent (or try to prevent) dehydration. She is now throwing up clear liquid (presumably the water). Could this just be a small stomach bug or maybe food poisoning?? What else could it possibly be??

If there are no other symptoms (ie cramps etc) then it's probably viral (stomach flu). They won't do anything at the ER other than what I'm going to tell you: Just make sure she doesn't get more than about a tablespoon of water every 15 minutes (one teaspoon if she's 5 and under), because ironically the volume of water is causing her to vomit. A tablespoon (preferably of pedialyte or Getorade), every 15 minutes will prevent dehydration, but still allows the tummy to settle down.
DON"T give her anything to eat. She probably has zero appetite anyway, but if and when she's very hungry tomorrow, only give her saltines, one at a time evry 15 minutes, eaten in small nibbles, or plain unbuttered rice, or plain toast (with a little honey if she's picky and over the age of two), bananas eaten in small pieces over a long time, or applesauce.
Tomorrow night if she's better add plain or vanilla yogurt (I recommend Dannon b/c it has acidophulus cultures) or vanilla Activia (b/c it has bifidus regularis, aslo good for tummy issues) but no dairy otherwise.
Good luck.

Toddler Vomiting Every 15 Minutes

See a doc. - we aren't qualified here to make a diagnosis

She is still throwing up because of the water. If she does not have diarrhea, and is only vomiting, she will not dehydrate that quickly. When the stomach gets upset, whether from food poisoning or flu, it needs to rest. For the first few hours, nothing at all, rinse the mouth only. Then a teaspoon of water after a few hours and work up. Fill a glass with ice and let her drink only the water from the melted ice every hour or so.

In this case I would run her to the clinic just to be sure there is nothing else going on.

that happened to me a couple months ago!! it was HORRENDOUS. it was abosoloutely the worst day of my life. i felt like killing myself. especially when my mom went off to work, i felt so lonely and depressed for some reason. so dont leave her! you should give her tiny sips of water every 20 minutes. dont give her too much or else she'll just throw it back up. also, tell her to sleep. when she sleeps her stomach is more calm and she can't feel the pain. sucking on ice can help. if she hasn't thrown up for a couple hours, then it'll be okay to start eating. but introduce the brat diet to her.

b: bread
r: rice
a: applesauce
t: toast

plain foods. nothing special. goodluck! when it hapened to me, i didnt eat anything for 32 hours. the next day my stomach was completely flat and i felt so weak that i couldnt even carry the weight of my own shoulders. hope she gets better!

she should not have any water right after she throws up for about 20 minutes. THEN give her ONLY a table spoon of water every 5 minutes or so, or she will keep throwing up

With E-Coli going around and vomiting being the first major symptom I would be safe and take her into the ER or to Urgent Care as soon as you can. I have a 4 yr old and if he was suffering what you described I would take him in. Good luck.

If you are giving her clear fluids continously, she should be okay. Unless it has gone more that a day. Just watch her and make sure she doesn't run a fever or has diareah. If she does then you need to get her checked out. Food poisoning and stomach bugs will have these symtoms.

You should probably call a doctor and/or take her to the emergency room. If she continues to throw up she will become dehydrated - especially since she is throwing up the liquid. In the meantime have her drink gatorage or powerade because it has electrolytes/vitamins in it.

Sounds like a bug to me. Just be sure that she is hydrated....tears when she cries and wet diapers. I stay away from guice and gatorade because of sugar. Try water and Pedialite (they have popsicles now). Be sure not to give her anything until 30 mins has past from the last throw up. If she continues the next day, contact your doctor as it could be ear infection.

Good luck and welcome to the world of Mommy!

Thats NOT normal. You need to get her to an E.R. Call an ambulance and you will avoid the waiting room at the E.R. You didnt say how old she was. If you have any all-fruit type popsicles, try having her suck on those. She can absorb water thru her mouth and not have it go straight to her stomach where yes, she will throw it right back up.
