Helps them stay light on their feet and builds stamina. I think it is predominately used to build foot work.
Peace!

The main reason boxers jump rope is to develop the fast twitch muscle fibres in the calves. These muscles are needed to move fluidly around the ring and switch direction quickly. Skipping also improves co-ordination (another essential to boxing). It can also be used to develop both aerobic (long skip) and anaearobic (interval speed skip) conditioning. Skipping also comes in handy when a boxer is trying to sweat down. You can take a rope into a sauna, but not a treadmill!

It gets them hyped up before games and when they do it during practices it gets there muscles flexed up so when they're on the ring they're not to stiff. Basically what it does is it's a form of warm up and flex's the muscles in the legs. Makes them quicker and lighter on their feet. They can jump away from punches a lot faster ... stamina and endurance. it also helps keep them bouncy, like when they bounce around their opponent ... Helps them stay light on their feet and builds stamina. I think it is predominately used to build foot work.

jump roping works out your heart most of all which ur right its stamina mainly cardiovascular and crap but in the ring all they do is move and if your hearts not used to supplying blood at a profuse rate, then ur gonna tire out quickly and in jumproping, all you do is MOVE
