My son's recruiter told him that they will provide transportation for the parents to go to his basic training graduation. Does anyone know about this and is it true?

As a former Army Recruiter, unless something has drastically changed, there is no policy for paid travel arrangements for families to attend Basic graduation. HEartstrinG's got the right answer.

My hubby is a Drill Sergeant for BCT. They've never provided transportation for the family....wife, parents or otherwise. That's the families responsibility. Attending graduation isn't mandatory, such as a PCS move would be for spouse and kids. Graduation also isn't guaranteed. The government doesn't pay for anything more than they have to. However, if he got it in writing from the recruiter, I guess they'd have to back it up. Highly unlikely it'll happen though.

P.S. I suggest you book your hotel well ahead of time. They fill up fast. So, get it as soon as you have a final date.

Good luck and Congrats to your son for making the decision to serve his country. I hope you're proud of him and support his career.

You will not be provided transportation to your childs graduation. You will have to pay your own way there, get a hotel and be able to eat. There *may* be one dinner - if you're lucky.

Sorry hon, either your son misunderstood, or he was lied to.

this is untrue as far as i know. my dad worked as a drill sergent at fort jackson for 4 years and in that time no one was ever brought in. recruters will tell you what you want to hear, not always the facts.
