A puppies feet are the most sensitive part of their bodies. Unless they are digging to escape and possibly get hurt or killed, or unless your yard has thousands of dollars worth of landscaping that is being ruined, let the puppy dig. It feels good to him. Eventually it will get bored with it and will stop. If not, get a childs sand box, fill it up and let him dig until his little hearts content!! Good luck............oh, but you may not be spending enough time with him and he is just plain bored. Good luck anyway!
P.S. Melissa, your an idiot!

We have had beagles all my life and I have never been able to stop them from digging holes. The person that asked about moles has a point. They love those things and will dig up the world trying to get them. Good luck.

dont worry about it. the puppy either smells something interesting under the ground or is just playing. it will probably get over it when it grows up and learns that theres not anything interesting down there. if you are completely against some little holes in the yard keep the dog entertained.

Actually what tnned said works really good. Burrying the dogs poop in the hole will make them stop digging.

DONT hit your puppy you will just show it to fear you, you cant really stop digging its only a puppy but you can try spraying it with water or tell him no dig in a clam voice and frim voice than place him in a room for 5-10 min. but dont call your dog to yell at it, go to him beacuse if you call him than start scolding than over time it wont listen to you. No one likes being called over just to be scolded at right.

granted this method is a little gross but it works like a charm.... after picking up ... puppy poo... place it in the hole and then cover it over. if your puppy tries to dig it will run into it and it wont like it, therefore it will stop.

evrytime he/she does it tel him/her "NO!" and put him/her in a kennel or room or cage of some sort by him/her self for bout 10 min., but u have to do it right away when u see him/her doing it. say u get home from somewhere and see it, dont punish him/her then cause he/she doesnt know what he/she did and will think ur punishing him/her for no reason. try and find him/her acctually doing it.
