It's mostly water, which is heavy and makes your stomach feel full. I wouldn't be surprised if the high temperature of soup helps with this effect too. Also since soup is hot and you have to eat it in small spoonfuls, one at a time, you tend to eat it slowly (at least compared to how quickly one can eat things like chips, frieds, bread, etc). The more slowly you eat, the more easily you will feel full. If you eat too fast, your brain doesn't have enough time to "process" how full your stomach is, and you end up eating more food than you really need to in order to satiate your hunger.
Soup is great for dieters!

It is the liquid part. Now it could be all the
items you have in your soup too. Most
bowls are more than 8 ounces. You get
full by the amount you consume. But
a good home made soup sure is great.

I don't get full on soup unless it is a hearty soup with thick chunks of meat and potatos and carrots.

is it like you feel so full, you wished you'd stop for the evening and not eat anymore? and also you feel like you've just eaten like everything that's on the table? hmmm.... the next time you eat soup, refrain from eating the bowl and the spoon. that way you won't feel THAT full and saves you from indigestion.

It depends if you eat and stock or cream base soup. Cream base uses flower that can fill you up. Also if it uses starcy or heavy ingrediants like potatoes, noodles, carrots and rice then that will fill you up also.
