You destroy the controlled release of the drug Oxycodone. This results in the immediate absorption of all the drug into the system. This can lead to increased immediate affects and can lead to an overdose situation. A person can die from this due to respiratory suppression and or arrest, especially if the person has not developed any tolerance to the drug.

I have a husband taking these! If you crush, they are time released but I also live in a drug infested neighborhood! They crush fine,and cook it down and shoot it or as I saw first hand it was cut fine and they snorted it!(By the way, I don't smoke or drink and the only drugs I take are prescribed for me.) I was talking to a dr. in the E.R. and he said they have new ones out now that if crushed the chemicals change and the pill is no good. I hope this helps! By the way, don't listen to whom ever told you that, it is only asking for trouble.

Crushing oxy makes it easier to snort, which makes the drug affect you faster than if ingested and waiting for it to disolve into the bloodstream. The nose has many capillaries and the powder would dissolve into these faster when snorted as a powder.
People usually die from it because they're taking too much or because they are taking it illegally. It's an extremely potent drug.

Yes, crushing the tab releases all the dope so that if one were to snort the whole line, one would risk so massive a cardiac response that one would be dead before one hit the floor. That's a frickin' STUPID thing to do - but on the other hand, it'd sure help clean up the gene pool...

thats exactly it. it is time released so that your body isn't bombarded with the drug all at once. crushing up the substance enables it to enter you bloodstream extremely quickly. not a good idea....... unless you don't have a problem dying from an overdose or your body going in to shock.

probably the most dangerous "legal" narcotic on the market. This is called "Hillbilly Heroin". Oxycontin is time released pain killer...when it is crushed up and snorted, it goes immediately into the blood stream and produces the same effects as heroin. The danger is that is stops your respiratory system and you stop breathing.

Most likely they will die from an overdose. If they are crushing it up its to snort it. That is not something you want to mess with.
