My Biology teacher got mad at two boys who were sharing ipod headphones, and he said that you can get "ear herpes" from sharing headphones.

No such thing as "ear herpes"! The only way to be infected with HIV this way is if there are open wounds. It involves the transfer of bodily fluids, which a biology teacher should surely know.

It is gross though, and I can't blame him for discouraging it. You can certainly get an ear infection this way.

Your teacher was making a joke - you aren't supposed to wear headphones in class. It's rude and obnoxious. He was being rude and obnoxious back.

If you are unsure exactly how HIV is transferred, it would be WELL worth your while to check out some credible health websites. Ignorance of STD's can be fatal.

HIV is not herpes. No you can't get HIV from sharing earphones, there must be fluids involved. HIV is transmitted when infected fluids (blood, semen, etc) enter the body through a cut or other opening.

Bodily fluids like sperm or vaginal secretions spread HIV. Blood contains it as well, so if you had an open wound and someone with HIV was bleeding, it is possible to contract it that way.
