My other question I asked about why fundis shove religion down people's throats, but it goes against Matthew chapter 6.

OK next part: why does the first verse only apply to almsgiving? You people manage to use the OT to justify adultery, stealing, murdering...OK why can't this verse (Matthew:6) be used against public preaching?? It's out of context? BS if you can use the Old Testament to justify murder than I can use that chapter to justify no public preaching.

I am not against organized religion. I am friggin liberal Catholic. CLICK the LINK and READ the QUESTION and maybe you can respond COHERENTLY.

OK John so when I use the OT to defend fornification (sp) will you condemn me?

If you people won't click the link then read the bible like you preach to.

I am ranting....and yes I know a Christian who defended adultery and murder using the OT. And if you people would click the link you would know that I had to listen to some idiot preach at me. I was stuck for various reasons, none of which you need to know that's besides the point...why don't you answer the question?

(that's a "dreamy" sigh, by the way, not a sarcastic one)

Because it refers to alms giving not preaching.

I read your other rant and I agree you are religious, just as the religious of Jesus day, sounds like you are a whitewashed tomb, maybe even part of the brood of vipers. Man I cannot stand religious people.

I and any other true Christian do not use the OT to justify anything.

Jesus told us to tell the world about what God had done, so you just need to deal with it. If you are a Christian as you say (not possible since you pray to Mary and other dead people, when you are supposed to pray to God through Jesus.) You would want to tell the world also, instead of hindering the work.

Have you accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior? If not then the person who was preaching to you I give kudos to them. If you have then you should have told them so , and enjoyed a nice time of iron sharpening iron.

"You people manage to use the OT to justify adultery, stealing, murdering."

What are you talking about? The OT justifies none of those things, and I'd be hard pressed to find a Christian that I know who would use it that way.

But, just for the record, in the Old Testament, there is a distinct difference between killing and murder. Context is EVERYTHING in the scriptures, otherwise we can justify everything and everyone.
Why are you so angry?

The bible is not a battering ram. It is not supposed to be used for what I want. It is God's word. That means HIS, not yours, not mine. It means what he intended it to mean.

You said on the previous post that you already are a Christian. Okay. Could you please tell me what that means to you? I have trouble understanding why anyone who loves God would have a problem with public preaching about God. As a fellow Christian, I sometimes feel as if I am not doing enough to teach people about Jesus. I know that God loves all people and wants all of them to be saved. So I have no justification for my inaction, laziness, or cowardice, if it keeps me from reaching people for Christ. I am saddened by the fact that some of then may spend eternity in hell. Being a Christian, How do you claim that it is better for us to remain silent? How do you justify your inaction when people who God loves are headed toward hell?

Because public preaching was not preached against, that is obvious in the fact that they preached in public, Peter on penticost was a good example, Christ himself always preached in public.

So sorry your ranbling just does not justify itself.

i am sorry you are so filled with hate against organised religion for some problem, but that does not take way from its validity.

Because the verse is referring to almsgiving... not preaching...

I dont see how the context would indicate that the verse is referring to preaching...

Cordially,
John

you have two choices, you can manipulate scripture to try to make it fit your life, or change your life to fit scripture. try the second one sometime.

Romans 10:13
For “whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.”

14 How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? 15 And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written:

“ How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace,
Who bring glad tidings of good things!”

Because Jesus said: " Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature".

So get oooover it, girl.

I've always wondered how people like you will stand being in Christ's kingdom with people that you obviously hate.

it doesnt apply if it doesnt agree with you(them). you dont use verses that are against you. or its like telling others you're lying.

apologists defend against atheists by saying atheists take one liners from the bible but they do it themselves.
