Very good question--theologians have pointed this sort of thing out before. The cross was used as an instrument of torture and execution in the form of crucifixion. Christ's sacrifice transfigured this symbol of death into a symbol of eternal life and peace. This transfiguration extends to our salvation. We can be transformed into something divine if we choose to allow God to do so. Archbishop Desmond Tutu mentions the transfiguration of the symbol of the cross in his book God Has a Dream: A Vision of Hope for Our Time. If Christ had been executed via the guillotine, then yes, the symbol of a guillotine would have been transfigured to convey eternal life.

If Jesus had been guillotined then he would not have fulfilled old testament prophecies and thus not been the son of God and thus few people would have followed him and there probably would not be a Christianity today so no churches thus no hanging guillotines.

No, because the cross is a pagan symbol that precedes the cruci-fiction. People were already wearing it long before Jesus was a twinkle in the Holy Spirit's eye.

Oi! What a gruesome thought. Makes me more glad he chose the time and place he did to come visit and teach us an awesome way to live. Yep , when God puts a plan together , he sees all the angles , past present and future. Gotta love it!

JUST WHAT POINT IS THAT? THAT YOU DO NOT BELIEVE IN JESUS? I HAVE A CROSS AND I WEAR IT SOMETIMES, BUT I DO NOT PUT ANY FAITH IN IT AS IT IS ONLY A SYMBOL. AND FOR YOU INFO YOU CAN'T HANG A GUILLOTINE IN YOU IT WOULD BE ON YOU

I have a guillotine in my front yard! What? It's definitely a deterrent to thieves.

Heh, pretty much. I guess we're just lucky it wasn't a burning at the stake. That'd be a gruesome thing to look at every time you passed a church.

Probably, because it seems that they feel they must have something physical to worship rather than worship the only true living God who is spirit.
