Yes. It is very common. So is nausea. It took my mother about 2 months to get her appetite back. Your best bet is to serve light, attractive meals. Ask the patient what they feel like they could eat (be persuasive - you will almost have to force feed them) and prepare it so that it looks good on the plate. Don't be insulted or surprised if they take a couple of bites and say they can't eat any more. Also, make sure you let the person know that unless they eat, they won't gain their strength back.

I know a couple people who lost their appetite after surgery for their heart and they did lose their appitite but you really need to try to eat its a important part of your recovery if it last more than a couple days call the doctor good luck

It was for my brother and law after he had heart surgery he would try and eat on saltine crackers so he could have a little bit of energy because he has a five year old and a two year old kid.
