I just adopted a crocker spaniel who is 2 yrs. old from a co-worker, before I took her in I asked about her health and shots and such, which my co-worker told me everything was okay. When I first got her she was a little skittish which is to expected but after a while he got used to being with me and is now my shadow, but since I got her she has been throwing up her water and a little of her food partially digested before she does that she makes sounds like she has the huccups. I spoke to co-worker about this and who says that just eats to fast and that happens, just change her food. That didn't work. Co-worker didn't have the shot records so I went to her vet for a copy and they are almost 2 years old. I'm taking her to the vet but has anyone else had this similar problem with their dogs?

I have a 4 year old cocker. We have been to many vets and nothing is wrong with him. He just does this! Has a sensitive stomach. Changing dog food will not help.

Often if you change a dogs food all at once they can have trouble digesting it. I don't know if you're feeding something different from what you friend was using to need to change it gradually. Add a little bit of the new food with her old brand. Gradually increase the amount of new food in the mix until your totally switched over. The dog eating so fast it makes itself puke sounds like bull **** unless the dog was being staved before you took it that's not likely. The vet will be able to run some tests and see if the dog has an illness that could be causing an upset stomach. Good luck

Your co-worker may have suspected the dog has problems and just pawned the dog off on you to avoid vet bills. Or they may not have know about the issues by not paying any attention to the dog.

In any case decide if you are willing to spend the money to see what is wrong and get the needed vet care.

You can try feeding small portions at a time until she is full. But she really needs a complete check up by the vet.

Try feeding chicken and rice dog food or something for sensitive stomachs. What you are feeding may be to harsh for her stomach. Try that before going to the vet.

Being as she hasnt had her shots in 2 years Id FOR SURE take her to the vet & get her updated...as far as the throwing up thing it could be okay but it coul dbe digestion problems or allergies....either way you should have a vet check her over its the smartest thing to do....aand IM not being mean but its a Cocker Spaniel not a Crocker Spaniel, just so one one laughs at you

changing her food isnt going to slow down her eating - putting a large rock in the food bowl will...

she should be fed 2-3 times a day if she has a problem with being too hungry.. make sure its a good food you are feeding (foods from grocery store or wal mart are not good food)

wonder why she was getting rid of the dog.. too bad she lied to your

the dog should have water all the time -
good for you for taking the dog to the vet.. I would suggest you talk to the previous owner if its something serious and costly they should take the dog back...

better to adopt from a facility like SPCA rather than somebody you know becuase probably you didnt have a proper contract

My 8 yr old german shepherd does this too. The vet advised me to feed her in smaller portions more frequently throughout the day. It works !
Sounds like your dog gulps her food and water, then upchucks it.
How is her weight?
She might still be nervous about changing owners, so the anxiety may dissipate as time goes on.
While my animals all visit the vet yearly, I don't vaccinate them every year and my vet understands my reasons.
Best Wishes

i have no problem with your typing. taking the dog to the vet is the best thing to do. dogs can vomit if they eat to fast but not all the time. changing the type of dog food will not stop it either. sounds to me that a co-worker just wanted to get rid of the dog and would tell you anything so you would take it

Yes the best thing to do is take her to the vet, but I have seen where you may have to raise her food and water bowls a little bit off the ground to help her swallow and digest things better. A friend of mine had a problem like yours and by raising her dog dishes the problem has subsided.
good luck

my dog had the same problem when he was a puppy. He just ate too much too fast and then chugged his water. Then a little while later he threw it all up. He finally figured out not to eat so fast. so now he is okay.

Id take your puppy to the vet though just in case.
hope everything goes okay

She could just be nervouse from being in a new environment, or just eating or drinking too fast. If it persists more than a few days I'd give the vet a call.
