Where do I go? What area at the Port Authority should I be at?

I once had a girlfriend in Connecticut and I always went through Montreal and NYC to visit her. With one exception, every time my bus from Montreal got to New York, it would arrive in a section where the gate numbers are low (10-50 or some such range). The exception was when I arrived at 6:30 AM and the bus dropped us off in the other "basement" area, where the two-digit gate numbers are higher--50-95 or some such range. This is because the main street level doesn't open until about 7 AM or thereabouts, and the area with the lower gate numbers has no exit other than to the main street level. Of course, the last time I was there was in 2002, so things might have changed since then.

Alternately, there was a Starbucks at 39th and 8th that might still be there.

The signs at the Port Authority are really quite good, so I wouldn't be too worried. I both arrived and picked up people on a Greyhound from Boston to NYC, and while I can't remember the exact area inside the Port Authority station... I remember that it was VERY easy to find if you just follow the signs for Greyhound arrivals.

Call Greyhound and find out what time the bus is expected in. Try to be at the port authority a little bit early asn ask a ticket agent or baggage handler where to wait - they will direct you.

Just pick a gate #, any gate # and tell your friend to meet you in front of that gate. When the buses drop off passengers at Port Authority, they don't always drop off at the same spot.

You can try gates 201, 202, 203, 204. There is a big, red room - Bank of America ATM machines are inside. You can't miss it. Just tell him to find his way to this area and meet him right in front of that red room.

Meet right outside on 8th Ave. and 42nd St. There is a mexican restaurant on the NE corner with a HUGE neon lit up mexican hat coming out of the roof of the building. Can't miss it!
