Use head and shoulders, use this product Permethrin Lotion 1% its the most popular lice treatment, my siblings has head lice and my father used: Head and Shoulders then Permethrin Lotion 1%, its better than NIX . Just repeat the process every two weeks, the headlice disappeared after 2 1/2 weeks depends, and the eggs you had to find yourself.

Ok you can either use an OTC product Rid or Nix something in the nature. If that doesn't work put mayo on the head and leave in over night wash out in the AM. I'm not joking I work in a Dr. office and these things do work. If they don't you need to get a prescription for something stronger. You also need to vacuum the entire house, wash the bedding, any stuffed animals need to be put in a bag for 3 weeks and wash any clothing that the person has come in contact with. Check every ones hair as well. Also make sure you pick all the nits out of the hair or else you won't get rid of them. There is lice spray to treat things like the couch, car, mattress those types of things. I know this seems like a lot to do but if you really want to get rid of them you need to do all of this. Good Luck!!!!!!!!!

I found RID to work quite well, but its imperitive to use the lice comb as well as using your hands to pick the nits (eggs) out. My daughter had a BAD lice infestation and I tried everything I knew of except the RID (because of the price). I would literally sit for HOURS picking nits; send her to school only to be called and told to come get her because she still had nits. Only after I purchased the RID and used it did she finally clear up. During the time I was working on her, I also put ALL of her stuff animals and dolls in a trash bag and tied it tight and sprayed her bed, carpet & pillows with an insecticide.
I've heard that mayonaise works, but I didn't seem to have much luck with it. It did make a nice conditioner and give her hair a beautiful sheen though!

Lotions and shampoos containing PERMETHRIN are usually effective. For example, NIX and RID are available over-the-counter. If these do not work, LINDANE and other products are available by prescription. Lice are becoming resistant to these products, however, making it more difficult to clear up lice infections.
The medications used for lice are insecticides. Therefore, they should be used exactly as directed and no more frequently than recommended on the package insert.
Certain products loosen the bond between the egg sack (nit) and the hair shaft so that the eggs can be easily removed. Remove eggs with a nit comb. Removal of all eggs may prevent reinfection if the medication fails to kill all of them.

I recommend two different methods....it is truly a process and takes weeks...you have my deepest sympathy....
1. get a good set of metal combs (i got one at wal*mart)
2. get a can of bedding/funiture spray (maybe two)
3. get a bottle of inexpensive olive oil
Comb through the hair with each of the two combs unitl you can't see anything. Cleaning the combs with HOT water often. Then soak the hair with the oil, cover tightly with a plasic bag (NOT over the face!) and let soak in for an hour or two. Then comb through the hair again before washing out the oil. While that is going on you have to wash and dry everything! Bag all stuffed animals tightly for at least two weeks, throw away bed pillows (it's easier than trying to treat them) spray and turn matteress, spray and vacume all the funiture and carpet. make sure you remember to treat the car and or car seats, bleach anything that can be bleached....it is hell, but the more through you are cleaning the better luck you will have getting rid of the pests.... Above all if your child has them please let them know that lice like CLEAN hair...and having it doesn't make you a "dirty person" Also do not send your child to school until you have treated them and combed through their hair a couple of times....If all else fails my neighbor works at a daycare and she swares by combing and coloring (nothing can live through hair color chemicals she says) and using a ton of hair spray a day. Good luck!

I totally feel your pain! I just went through this. Don't panic! like I did... it is SO common. And know that lice like nice clean scalps so don't let anyone tell you that only dirty people get them.
ok so.......
I hated the rid, it did nothing for my daughter. I went and bought NIX and used it like it said, then we sat and combed and combed forever.
I liked the nix because it is the only one that says it kills the eggs as well.
Here are a couple other things you can try.....
they really do work!
6 ounces of dawn dishwashing liquid
1 ounce of white vinegar
2 teaspoons of tea tree oil
It is not poisonous to humans at all, and it will kill the lice fast.
Mix together.......wet hair.....put on....leave on for 25 minutes....rinse.....a use a white towel to towel dry her hair....you will see all of the dead lice on the towel....repeat every day for a week.
Make sure you use a conditioner afterwards the dawn can dry your hair out.
You NEED to get a metal comb, those little plastic things just don't do it. I got one at walgreens called the licemeister.... it is amazing.
It is so important for you to get ALL the eggs out... if you don't the WILL hatch and you will have to start over again. the nix does kill the eggs, but a couple may survive... and you don't want to take the chance. you can use distilled white vinegar it works so well to loosen the "glue" that the lice use to cement their eggs to your hair, then go through the hair with the metal comb.
I got a 100 watt bulb and sat under it so I could see all of them.
you need to do the combing once a day. for like 2 weeks until you see NO eggs at all.
also remove all stuffed animals, extra blankets, dolls with hair... etc. bag them up and put them outside. or the garage... wherever, lice can live no longer than 48 hours off of the human scalp.
vacuum daily, then bag up the vacuum bag and throw it out. wash all sheets and pillows etc daily.
its a TON of work, but well worth it.... think of it as "fall cleaning" thats what I did, I scowered from top to bottom.
Also,go to wal-mart and get a can of equate brand lice spray for bedding, chairs, your car, etc lots of people forget the car!!!! and dont forget the hair things, scrunchies, elastics, etc I put mine in a pillow case and washed in hot water and it worked well.
The tea tree oil in that little recipe works really well. it will actually help prevent another outbreak....I out it in a squirt bottle with water and spray it on my girls' hair after every bath. it smells strong when wet, but you can't smell it at all when dry.
Anyway I hope I have helped... I know it can be expensive and time consuming...and it sucks!
but with a little patience, you will get through this!

ok i just went through this this week. my house came down with it to. first off give yourself a mayo treatment. (it kills the lice by smothering them) put mayonaise in your hair for like 6 hours. cover it with a bag. then after you wash it out put the lice shampoo in it. you can get a box at walmart for 8 dollars. leave it in for an hour or so. comb it out with the speial comb. wash your hair out and you should be set. if you want to go one step further you can dye your hair but you do not have to. lice can not survive in hair dye. do not forget to wash your bedding in hot water and run it through the dryer. and if you have the time bomb your house with a flea bomb. it time consuming but it works. that is what i did and we are clear. its better then having to shave your head especially if you are a girl. good luck i know the feeling

Mineral oil and vinegar. Saturate hair and wear a shower cap for a couple of hours. Works better than the $10 a bottle stuff.

use the Nix product. follow the instructions! it kills the bugs, but then if you really want to get rid of them you actually have to pick them out. or if you want to take the lazy way just use the comb provided with the Nix. My mom is a nurse

any pharmacy or wal-mart will sell a "lice shampoo" and combs. what a pain. Good luck.
be sure to wash you linens in very hot water, too. helps kill the eggs. a steamer can be used, too.
