Treat them as individual people. Too often, parents try to treat their twins as the same people... of course, you want to be fair in your discipline issues, but they should ultimately be treated as the individual people they are. It is cute to dress twins similarly- when they are both the same sex- but not so cute when they are boy/girl sets. Lots of people make thier twins share things... they have one lunch pail for the two of them... To make sure they develop their separate personalities, give them their own individual items. Good self-esteem comes from a good sense of self and being given the opportunities to express their unique qualities. They are individual people with special and unique qualities first, and twins second.

I'm a twin, for real. My twin's name is Katie. We're fraternal. I'm a teen, and my mom treated us equally. I'm happy now. I have high self-esteem. Also, if it's a girl, clothes usually make them happy :) Hinthint.

Keep encouraging them to try things for themselves and solve manageable daily problems. Whether they succeed or fail, reassure them of your unconditional love for them. That way, they build their own confidence.
