I think its a very good Idea, most people dont really like to go the actual wedding. But everyone likes a good reception, Just put on the invites getting married at the courthouse, Please attend the reception at....... It will work out good. The reception is the best part of a wedding, It will also give you a little more money to spend on the reception since you dont have a big wedding party and you wont have to decorate a church. But still make time to go to a park or something to take pictures.

My husband and I were married by a friend who received his certification to marry people over the internet. As odd as it may seem, it ws great. We wrote our own ceremony and our own vows that we read to each other. We had the wedding in a special place that I see every day on my way to work. The ceremony consisted of our parents, my daughter, & the photographer. We all dined together afterwards (excluding the photographer) and my husband and I spent the evening in a nice suite in our home town. The next day we had our families and only close friends to our home to celebrate. The proofs to our wedding were available for our guests to see at the reception. We had little stress and our wedding was special. I am glad we did not just go to the court house.

I was married in a court house. We were together for 20 years and the way we got married had nothing to do with the ending.
His Dad was best man and my Grandmother the Matron of honor. The ceremony itself was short... VERY short.
What is special to you? That is what should be included in your reception. What ever flowers, foods, music you both love. Invite people you care most about.
For me, if I were to do it again, I would have a beach picnic with a seafood boil. My desert would be important, but it would not be that fancy cake... for me, it would be brownies and ice cream... each good alone but VERY good together.... just like the one I would marry and I are.
Only good things for you as you begin a new life together.

I got married at the courthouse almost 4 years ago...it was very nice..with just family. I saved so much money doing it too. It's not the way that you get married that matters so much, its the fact that you are marrying the person that you love more than anything that matters....Good Luck!

I got married in a courthouse with a jp 29 years ago; had thought it may be cold & impersonal but as we both had our familes there it was really warm & intimate. we then had a picnic lunch in a park - 15people in total. the day was what i wanted & if I were ever to re-marry I wouldn't do things much differently.except maybe get married on a beach at sunrise ( new beginnings)
every one was relaxed & stress free- his father was his witness & i had my best freind as mine - she was the only person who was not immediate family - but I was / am closer to her than my siblings

We grabbed a JP, and got married in Jackson Square in New Orleans. Then my husband took me to a Plantation for our wedding night.

Just going down to the courthouse sucks. You can have a JOP wedding anywhere you want. Pick a park, or ask to use your church, or church grounds. You dont want to say I Do next to #38 waiting to pay his parking ticket.

I got married by the judge. It was just us and my children and his grandparents. It was special just because we were there. We really didn't do anything special. We hope to have a ceremony on a anniversery. I have been married one month. Congradulations though!!
